Reddit Is Impressed With This Alcoholic Beverage From Aldi
Very much like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, Aldi is one of those places where, sometimes, you never know what you're going to get. Some of those things may be a hit and others a miss. The fun part is trying new things.
Of course, Aldi does have its store brand staples that look very much like their well known counterparts, and some customers say they're better than the name brand originals. When it comes to alcohol, however, you can't always count on Aldi to deliver what you expect. This isn't the chain's fault: According to The Washington Post, some states don't allow grocery stores to sell alcohol, or they restrict the kinds they can carry. Moreover, as Aisle of Shame clarifies, grocers need a liquor license to sell booze, which can present another obstacle even for Aldi stores that are allowed to stock it.
In the stores that do have the ability to carry beer and wine, it's common to see Aldi brands alongside some better known beverages — when they're in stock, that is. Whether the reason is a lack of stock or a seasonal issue, Aldi products tend to go and come back again. Recently, one Reddit user was very happy to find his favorite alcoholic treat back in stock at their local Aldi.
Wicked Grove is a favorite at Aldi
One Reddit user recently took to the platform to report the reappearance of Wicked Grove's Pearsecco hard cider at Aldi, priced at $7.99 per six-pack in the Chicago area. It's "surprisingly good," they said, "much better than most house brand beer/seltzer options." Wicked Grove should be familiar to those who shop at a coveted alcohol-selling Aldi. The brand's main offering is a Crisp Apple Hard Cider, which received a Gold Medal review from Tastings.
The Pearsecco gets approval from casual drinkers as well. The original poster finds it "crisp and not too sweet," while others agreed about its non-saccharine flavor. "I thought they were very dry," one user confirmed. "I didn't mind it, but my husband who likes the sweeter ciders was not a fan." Another user compared it to Woodchuck Cider from Vermont, which also offers a Pearsecco drink.
Redditors were happy to learn that the drink is back in stock. "I had it a while ago and have been looking for it since," one shopper said. While most customers probably drink the cider on its own, someone else said they had used the Pearsecco to make a beer can chicken recipe.
