Even The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile Had To Get A Second Job As A Lyft Car

Just when you thought things couldn't get any stranger out there, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile decided to pull double-duty as a Lyft car. We're not complaining though — seems like this would be a much more enjoyable ride than the average sedan.

The Wienermobile has never been anything less than innovative. In fact, it's widely considered brand marketing at its finest. The unlikely transportation method was the brainchild of Carl Mayer, nephew of founder Oscar. Back in 1936, a regular old car was a luxury. Carl Mayer had the inspired idea to increase awareness of the hot dog brand by driving a 13-foot mobile frank around town, per OM Wienermobile. Mayer's plan worked, and Oscar Mayer is definitely one of the most recognized hot dog brands out there today.

The PR move continues to evolve, with a WienerCycle (a three-wheeled moped with a sidecar) and WienerDrone (unmanned, hot dog delivery aircraft) among the most recently added members of the fleet.

How to get the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile as your next Lyft

The idea behind the Wienermobile/Lyft partnership is to bring joy to unsuspecting rideshare users during a tough, pandemic-riddled time. Wondering how to catch a ride? Unsuspecting Lyft XL riders in four Wienermobile markets (New York, Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles) will be treated to free surprise rides in the 27-foot hot dog on wheels. The promotion will take place between August 25 to August 27.

According to a company press release sent to Mashed, "two five-star drivers, the Oscar Mayer Hotdoggers, will surprise riders when they call a Lyft XL and get a wiener rideshare instead. Riders will enjoy the ride with music, neon lights, free shirts, hot dog masks and, of course, Weenie Whistles, all the way to their destination."

So, grab some friends and get those Lyft apps ready for an epic good time and TikTok-worthy videos aboard the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
