Cornstarch Is Key To Copycat Cracker Barrel Fried Apples
by KATY CANADA
If you're a fan of Cracker Barrel Fried Apples, Mashed recipe developer Susan Olayinka says you can make her copycat recipe at home in about a half hour.
Cornstarch is the key element for a saucy fried apple. Added at the appropriate time, it will create a rich and saucy dish.
Olayinka's recipe calls for a cornstarch slurry, a smooth mixture of cornstarch and cold apple juice. Use one tablespoon of starch for every cup of liquid.
"Do not be tempted to just put the cornstarch in...as it will go lumpy," Olayinka explained. The liquid in your slurry needs to be cold or the cornstarch may clump.
After all the ingredients have cooked for 20 minutes, the slurry is stirred into the pan. Once added, cook the apples for another 20 minutes before serving.
