In a recent TikTok posted by Food Network, celebrity chef Guy Fieri responded to a Twitter poll — "Eliminate a fry shape forever: classic, crinkle, curly or waffle?" Fieri was torn between crinkle and waffle, but he voted to axe crinkle-cut fries; as for his favorite fry, Fieri said it was “hands down” the shoestring variety.

There were plenty of comments that disagreed with Fieri's favorite fry — "Shoe string is the worst" — and his least favorite — "If you believe shoe strings are better than crinkle fries, you are probably on a government watchlist." However, according to national french fry preferences, Fieri might be onto something.

One New York Times writer noted that crinkle fries are "the Pringles of French fries ... proudly unnatural," and Mashed ranked them as one of the worst items at Shake Shack. Additionally, Google Trends data shows that crinkle-cut fries are the favorite form of french fries in only two states — Michigan and Kentucky.
