McDonald's UK Delivers A Heartfelt Tribute To The Queen
By DEREK HELLING
McDonald’s opened its first United Kingdom location in the London suburb of Woolwich in 1974, and at the time, Elizabeth II had been on the throne for 22 years. Now, 2023 will mark the first year without the former queen on the throne, and McDonald's — which has reached huge success in the U.K. over the years — is paying its respects.
McDonald's U.K. tweeted on September 9th, "the entire McDonald's system is deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She dedicated her life to serving the United Kingdom & the Commonwealth, uniting us at times of both celebration & challenge. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family."
The company has reason to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth, since she actually owned a McDonald's in a shopping mall west of London; while she was never seen eating there, the location is fit for a queen. The restaurant has leather couches, complimentary tablets for diners to entertain themselves, and even a wait staff.
