The Controversial Ingredient Blue Raspberry Replaced

Despite its artificial origins, blue raspberry is a popular flavor with a bold hue. Both were introduced to the food world as an entirely new flavor and color in a frozen novelty.
The blue raspberry flavor emerged in the mid-20th century, initially in snow cones by Gold Medal's Sno-Kone brand in 1958 and later popularized by ICEE slushie drinks in the 1970s.
Blue raspberry came to be when the FDA banned red amaranth dye, Red No. 2 because it caused major health concerns.
To solve the issue and keep raspberry goodies alive, foof companies replaced it with Blue No. 1. Though it’s created in a lab, blue raspberry remains a popular flavor.
