Supply chain issues, staffing shortages, and inflation have all led to significant problems within the restaurant industry. Now, employees at Sysco, a major food supplier to various food service places like restaurants, have gone on strike in multiple cities around the United States.
On September 27, 2022, the Teamsters Facebook account announced that 200 Sysco employees had walked off the job at the Syracuse location "to protest unfair labor practices." The revolt soon gained steam, with Sysco's Boston and Phoenix employees going on strike as well.
Additionally, more than 300 truck drivers have gone on strike, causing concern about Sysco's ability to ship food to its service industry clients. Mark May, principal executive officer of Local 317, the Syracuse union, told syracuse.com that the two sides plan to meet during the first week of October to talk things out.
