The Ingredient Swap That Will Majorly Upgrade Your Pumpkin Pie
By MIKALA LUGEN
While you can't go wrong with the classic pumpkin pie recipe, you can swap in an ingredient and take the dish to a whole new level. While plant-based eaters and vegans opt for adding tofu, others use canned pumpkin — but there's another ingredient swap you must try when making pumpkin pie.
According to Salon, adding cocoa powder to your pie dough is a perfect way to transform the traditional pie into a chocolatey fall dessert. Salon suggests reducing a little flour from your recipe and swapping in some cocoa powder; you can add extra sugar to contrast cocoa’s bitterness and make the pie a bit sweeter.
Feel free to splash a little more water on the dough to make it easier to roll out. A huge benefit of making your own pumpkin pie is the endless possibilities of customization — and if you love customizing your desserts, we have some good news: you can add cocoa powder to almost every homemade pie crust recipe.
