The Kitchen Appliances You Should Never Buy, According To Professional Chefs
By KIMBERLEY LAWS
Kitchen appliances can help chop, stir, and cook our way to a faster, easier dinner, but not all gadgets are created equal. While some chefs rave about their KitchenAid stand mixers, blenders, food processors, and even coffee grinders, there’s a general consensus among chefs that one type of kitchen appliance should be avoided.
According to chefs, when shopping for kitchen appliances, avoid single-use niche appliances, which means that most people should avoid a bread maker, yogurt maker, and egg cooker. According to chef Carrie Nahabedian, it’s best to eschew single-use appliances and opt, instead, for things that have multiple purposes.
However, just because a kitchen gadget has multiple uses doesn’t mean it’s a good investment. Chef Shaun Quade says that if “it slices, it dices, it’s 20 different gadgets all rolled into one,” it might not be very helpful or durable, and instead, it’s best to invest in a single high-quality knife that suits your needs.
