The Real Reason Chinese Restaurants Are Closed On Mondays
By MARIA SCINTO
A possible reason your neighborhood Chinese restaurant is closed on a Monday is that in the US, several Chinese restaurants are small family-owned businesses, where the staff works the entire week and needs one day off. With weekends being the busiest days and Mondays the lowest-traffic days, it makes sense for restaurants to take Mondays off.
Another reason why Chinese restaurants are closed on Mondays could be because they can’t get fresh produce delivered on Sundays, and the ones that stay open on Mondays, might not have the freshest food. In fact, it’s best to avoid ordering easily-spoiled items, like fish, at any restaurant on a Monday because of Sunday delivery issues.
Although unconfirmed, an anonymous user on Yahoo Answers said that you should skip having Monday dinners at a Chinese restaurant because the restaurants that do stay open might have given the chef the night off. The meals are, therefore, prepared by unsupervised kitchen staff, and the quality might suffer from the lack of a chef’s oversight.
