The Real Reason Gordon Ramsay Lost His Michelin Stars
By BOSHIKA GUPTA
Gordon Ramsay earned his first two Michelin stars for his dedicated work at the Aubergine restaurant in London only three years after he started working there. The chef earned several more Michelin stars throughout his illustrious career but ended up losing some of those precious accolades along the way.
Although Ramsay has earned 16 Michelin stars throughout his career, he has lost several of them, and as of 2022, he holds only seven. In 2013, Ramsay’s reputation received a major blow when his NYC eatery, Gordon Ramsay at the London, lost both its Michelin stars as the eatery’s food quality had deteriorated.
Even though he’s still very popular in the industry, he took the loss of his Michelin stars very seriously, saying, “I started crying when I lost my stars.” Ramsay has also expressed displeasure for chefs who don’t take their Michelin stars seriously, although not every Michelin star chef agrees with him.
