New York City-based dermatologist Dr. Amy Spizuoco says that alcohol prompts dehydration and inflammation, making the skin more prone to acne outbreaks. Inflammation results in swelling and redness, and it distends the pores in your face, leading to a spike in blackheads and whiteheads.
According to Dr. Spizuoco, beer is one of the main culprits behind alcohol-driven acne, due to its salt and sugar numbers. She noted that fine liquors, such as vodka or tequila-based drinks, are friendlier to the face.
