The Single Ingredient To Make Pizza Restaurant-Worthy

Dan Kluger, a James Beard Award-winning chef, spoke with Mashed in an exclusive interview. He shared that the secret to the perfect pizza is homemade sauce with a key ingredient.
"My main thing is staying away from pre-made sauce," Kluger explained. He prefers “Jersey Fresh canned tomatoes or Muir Glen Organic.”
Kluger firmly believes the difference between a decent DIY pizza and a restaurant-quality one lies in homemade sauce. He crushes the tomatoes with extra virgin olive oil and salt.
More than anything, Kluger urges making a sauce that tastes good to you. "If you don't want to eat a spoonful of it on its own, it's not going to be any better on the pizza."
