The Fresh Market topped USA Today’s annual list of the top 10 supermarket brands for the second year running. USA Today compares the “intimate and personalized shopping experience” of The Fresh Market to European markets, a step-away from the current warehouse-style trend.
Despite its position in USA Today’s poll, The Fresh Market came 15th in YouGov’s rankings of the best supermarket brands, with Trader Joe’s topping the list instead. Since separate groups of people responded to both surveys, a difference in title holders stands to reason.
When blogger Brooke Randolph of Diets in Review compared The Fresh Market, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods, they found that Whole Foods consistently offered lower and comparable prices. It seems a negative reputation is what kept Whole Foods from winning either survey.
