The Trader Joe's Receipt That Had Reddit Cracking Up
By NAOMI KENNEDY
Though costs of groceries and other goods have been going through inflation, the price that Reddit user u/callandiajelly was asked to pay at Trader Joe’s made the whole platform gasp. The photo of the user's checkout screen showed an item listed at over $22,000 — at a store known for its affordable prices, no less!
Priced at $5.49 on the chain’s website, a single 12-ounce bag of organic chia seeds rang up at $22,020.39. Naturally, the price was a mistake, but that didn’t stop Redditors from poking fun at the situation: “Clearly you didn't read that the sticker price was PER CHIA SEED not per bag, duhhh,” u/Spuba commented.
Meanwhile, u/kaBoMBersNotebook wrote, "Here's what I think happened: they meant to hit the 'produce' button and then hit 4-0-1-1- to type in a banana, but instead hit: 'quantity' by mistake, hit 4-0-1-1, and then hit enter thinking it punched in bananas." u/callandiajelly confirmed this, adding that they "died laughing" when the item was scanned.
