The Truth About Great British Bake Off Winner Rahul Mandal

Series 9 winner of the “Great British Bake Off” Rahul Mandal impressed the judges and viewers with his extraordinary baking skills. His talent is especially interesting considering he doesn’t have a culinary background, and he had only been baking for a few years by the time he won the competition in 2018.
Mandal initially moved from India to the U.K. to study optical metrology at the University of Sheffield before joining the university’s Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre as a research associate. He credits his work friends with helping him improve his baking skills, as he would bring his bakes to work and receive feedback from his colleagues.
The engineer is also very humble; after winning the special New Year’s edition of “Bake Off,” Rahul dedicated his award to all the bakers who had been on the show. He believes his journey can be an example to others, saying, “I only started my baking journey a few years ago, and if I can be in the tent, so can anyone who loves baking.”
