The Truth About Syabira From Great British Bake Off Season 13

Avid gamer and postdoctoral cardiovascular researcher Syabira Yusoff, one of the 12 contestants of Season 13 of the “Great British Bake Off,” is a devoted baker, combining her Malaysian heritage with traditional British cuisine. She started baking in 2017, but her passion for being in the kitchen has made her a contestant in the nationally-renowned TV show.
Yusoff is entering GBBO with the support of her boyfriend, Bradley, who she lives with in London. Her Instagram account, @syabira_bakes, showcases all her creations, from Black Forest cakes to crushed pecan cupcakes. One of her signature dishes is the chicken rendang Cornish pasties, which will keep the judges “keen,” according to GBBO's Instagram account.
Yusoff loves learning and trying new things; her favorite video game is a WW II simulation game that helped her learn about real-world leadership. She hasn’t let go of her Malaysian heritage, having spent most of her life there. Syabira worked as a research assistant at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur before she shifted to the U.K. in 2013 to pursue her PhD.
