TikTok Is Floored Over Michael Symon's Simple Garlic Technique
By KATY CANADA
Chef Michael Symon recently showed fans on TikTok his game-changing hack for hastily chopping garlic cloves. As per the chef, the grocery store-bought jarred minced garlic has its flavors altered and tastes bitter due to the machine it's minced and processed in, preservatives like citric and phosphoric acid, and being pasteurized or heated.
In the TikTok, Symon first pressed firmly on the clove of garlic with his knife to break and peel off the skin and then chopped the clove in half. Next, he "got physical," forcefully smashing the clove using the flat side of his knife, dividing the garlic into small, flattened pieces, which he then gave a rough chop to finish. Symon then explained that a Microplane will do the trick as well.
According to the video's comment section, this time and effort-saving tactic has followers throwing out their store-bought minced garlic. When one person wrote, "We should learn this in high school," another one noted, "I would only buy a jar of minced Garlic if I have issues with my wrist or hands to avoid pain due to Arthritis or Carpal Tunnel."
