Vienna Sausages Look Like Canned Hot Dogs, But They're Not

You may have seen Vienna sausages on grocery store shelves next to other canned classics like Spam, but you'd be wrong if you think they’re just canned hot dogs.
If you’ve ever eaten Vienna sausages, you know they’re softer than most hot dogs. They’re also shorter and have open ends, unlike hotdogs, which are closed within casings.
As the name implies, the sausages come from Vienna and were originally made from various meats including pigs, cows, and even horses. Today, there are many variations.
In the States, Vienna sausages are made from an almost paste-like mixture of meat and spices which is then cooked. In Vienna, they’re made with a casing similar to a hot dog.
