Why Rachael Ray Skips Vegetable Oil In A Boxed Cake Mix
By DEREK HELLING
In a video on YouTube, cookbook author and television personality Rachael Ray describes how to upgrade your baking skills with a boxed cake mix hack that she swears by. Ray says that if the recipe on the box calls for vegetable oil, use butter instead.
Ray goes on to explain that this step will make your cake "richer and more flavorful." Leaf recommends melting your butter in a measuring cup of a size identical to the amount of vegetable oil the recipe calls for and using a microwave to do that.
Successful baking requires precise ingredients, measurements, and timing, but, as Leaf puts it, this ingredient swap "usually improves a cake." Leaf explains that both butter and vegetable oil identically act as the necessary fat element in your cake.
