Appearing on “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” can give restaurants a serious boost in business, but it can also be a challenging process. Restaurant owners who have been on the show say food waste and other costs from production are tremendous, and while this often gets offset by exposure, episodes can take awhile to air.
While an endorsement from Guy Fieri may seem like it will guarantee success, not every restaurant featured on the show has stayed open. Fat Ones in Orlando, Florida got a boost in business from the show, but it was closed down after scathing reviews.
Some Redditors have also called out the authenticity of the show and Fieri himself. Fieri has been criticized by some owners for taking too long to film and not being the nicest person to work with off-camera.
