Why You Shouldn't Get Southern Fried Chicken At Cracker Barrel
By CHASE SHUSTACK
Cracker Barrel’s Southern Fried Chicken was introduced in 2019 to celebrate the chain's 50th anniversary. The chain says it’s "authentically prepared, double-breaded by hand with a custom blend of three types of black pepper and several seasonings and spices, then fried until it is perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside."

Cracker Barrel’s bold claims about its Southern Fried Chicken aren’t just fancy marketing, as reviews of the meal are mostly positive. Redditors on the subreddit r/FriedChicken describe the dish as "light, flavorful, and juicy," noting how tasty the chicken is when drizzled with honey.

However, Cracker Barrel's Southern Fried Chicken isn’t the healthiest option, with 1,640 calories, 100 grams of fat, 475 milligrams of cholesterol, and 4,730 milligrams of sodium — which is more than twice the CDC recommended <2,300 milligrams of sodium per day. If you enjoy this meal, it’s best to eat it in moderation.
