The Real Reason Ina Garten Always Wears Corduroy Or Denim Shirts
Those who regularly watch Ina Garten's television show "Barefoot Contessa" or scroll through her videos on social media have likely noticed one thing that never changes. Garten always wears the same clothes. Whether it is a corduroy or denim shirt, you can almost guarantee she'll have some version of her uniform on when you see her working in the kitchen.
But this isn't exactly a new revelation. Garten even addressed it at an event in Houston, Texas in November of 2015, Houston CultureMap reports. While discussing why she never does paid endorsements, Garten went on to mention some of the stranger offers she had gotten. "People have asked me to do a line of clothing," she said. "Clothing? I wear the same thing every day." But Garten does more than wear the same thing every day. It really is her uniform and she has good, practical reasons for following her own dress code.
Garten likes to avoid messy clean-up
According to CheatSheet, Garten said, "I don't like wearing an apron when I'm working, so I find a denim shirt or a corduroy shirt and I buy 25 of them. It's like a uniform and I don't have to worry about it. They can all just go into the washing machine. At night I get dressed up — I don't wear a denim shirt at night — but when I'm working, I always wear like a brown corduroy shirt or a blue denim shirt." You can likely imagine how immaculate her closet of work clothes must look.
But Ina isn't just buying any old shirt in bulk. PureWow reports that Garten's flowy button-downs are actually custom-made. So if you have tried looking for Garten's signature blouses and had trouble finding them, that might be why. Regardless, you can easily buy denim or corduroy button-downs to cook in from tons of retailers. To get a similar look to Garten, you might want to try sizing up for an over-sized look. Whatever you choose to wear, stick to dark colors to pull off this Barefoot Contessa-inspired apron substitute.
