The Reason Giada De Laurentiis Practices Intermittent Fasting
If you haven't heard about intermittent fasting yet, then chances are you will at some point. It's becoming the one of the latest and most popular trends in dieting and wellness. Now Food Network celebrity chef Giada de Laurentiis has joined the trend and recently shared why she likes the practice.
She said, "think about how you feel when you work through a weekend or go too long without a vacation. In a way, your gut is the same," she writes in her recent book "Eat Better, Feel Better: My Recipes for Wellness and Healing, Inside and Out" (via Cheat Sheet). De Laurentiis continued, "When its working its hardest to handle every new thing you're sending its way before it's had the chance to digest and dispose of what was already there, it doesn't know what to attack first." That's why De Laurentiis believes fasting is a way to slow things down and give your body a chance to really get to the bottom of things before dealing with more.
This is how she practices intermittent fasting
While intermittent fasting might sound scary or as though it is going to be a long slog of hours without eating, there are actually quite a few ways to go about the trend (via Everyday Health). That means you can pick the best option for you and your body if you want to give it a try. For De Laurentiis, she likes a combination of intermittent fasting for two days and then one normal day of eating (via Giadzy).
What that looks like for her is fasting for 14 hours overnight for two days and then taking every third day off from fasting. That means she doesn't eat from 8 p.m. until 10 a.m. on days that she practices fasting. This way it feels more natural to her, because she limits late night snacking this way and is sleeping during a good portion of the fasting period as well. It certainly sounds like a great and approachable way to give the latest in health and wellness a try.
