Homemade Cashew Coffee Creamer Recipe

Finding the perfect coffee creamer isn't always easy. The creamers that are flooded with flavor tend to have a lot of sugar, and the ones that are deemed healthy don't always do much to actually add flavor. This task can be put to rest, though, thanks to wellness coach and recipe developer Miriam Hahn of YouCare-SelfCare as she perfected a homemade cashew coffee creamer recipe. "I love making my own creamer, because store-bought creamers have tons of additives," Hahn says. "It is hard to find one without 'natural flavors,' which are loosely regulated and could be a number of different things. Also, there are thickeners and emulsifiers included that you simply don't need."

This coffee creamer is the real deal, and as a huge bonus, it has a great flavor. "I love the creamy taste and how versatile it is," Hahn continues. "Sometimes I add vanilla if I want that flavor. I also like working with cashews for this because they fully break down and there is no need for straining in a nut bag like there would be with almonds or oats." If this sounds like a foodie dream come true to you, let's get into how you can whip it up at home.

Gather the ingredients to prepare homemade cashew coffee creamer

First, you'll want to gather the ingredients you'll need to make the homemade cashew coffee creamer, most of which you probably already have in your pantry. You'll have to get together raw, unsalted cashews, boiling water, coarse salt, raw honey, and cinnamon. That's it!

You'll also need a pot in which to boil the water and a blender so you can mix everything together. If you haven't done so already, this is a good time to start boiling the water so it's ready for the cashews in the first step. As a friendly reminder, this recipe makes 10 (delicious) servings.

Soak the cashews in boiling water

Now you'll need to soak the cashews in boiling water for one hour. This, of course, is the most time-consuming part of the recipe — yet it's an easy step that requires a bit of patience. You want to ensure the cashews are soft for their next step in the blender. "You pour the boiling water over the cashews, and just let them sit," Hahn notes. "You are basically softening them up so that they break down in the blender and become smooth."

Once the cashews have been soaking in the water for an hour, you'll then drain and rinse them. Then, set them aside for the next step.

Blend the ingredients

Next, you'll add the cashews, water, salt, honey, and cinnamon to a high-speed blender. You'll then blend the mixture for at least three minutes, until the mixture is completely blended and smooth. "If you don't have a high-speed blender, you might have issues with the cashews," Hahn says. "You can also let them sit overnight in water (not boiling). But usually, if you soak them for that hour, they are good to go."

Your mixture is going to look really creamy and delicious. Aside from the time it takes for the cashews to soften, this is a really quick recipe to whip up. Just wait until you taste it in your favorite beverage.

Pair the creamer with your favorite hot beverage

After the ingredients have been blended, the coffee creamer is ready to use. "I pair it with coffee, but you could add [it] to tea if you like cream in your tea," Hahn says. "You can also treat it like milk and use it for cereal or add to a smoothie."

If you made this coffee creamer ahead of time or don't finish it in one sitting, then you can rest assured — the creamer can be stored in the fridge for up to a week in a sealed container. Once you make this yummy coffee creamer, you will want to have it on hand at all times. It's delicious, and Hahn also notes, "Cashews are so great for you health-wise. They are rich in fiber, protein, and healthy fats, along with magnesium, zinc, and selenium, which are very important minerals."
