This Cheesy Broth Is Giada De Laurentiis' Secret Ingredient
It's no secret Giada De Laurentiis is admired in the world of cooking. According to Rotten Tomatoes, she has been on about 14 aired shows as a host or in a recurring role, including "The Rachael Ray Show" and a few of her own, like "Winner Cake All," "Giada at Home," "Giada Entertains," "Giada's Holiday Handbook," and "Ultimate Thanksgiving Challenge."
She is known for a slew of advice, tips, and tricks for home cooks, especially in the realm of Italian cooking, but many of her tips span a wider reach. PopSugar rounded up 21 secrets from the iconic Italian cook that could help up your game in the kitchen. On top of that, she teaches fans the balance needed to maintain a proper diet, how to trick their kids into eating more vegetables, and even quick meal ideas like a frittata that takes around 10 minutes to make.
So naturally when she came out with a secret soup broth that adds more flavor to the dishes, it had to be revealed. So what's the secret ingredient?
Mooooove over, grilled cheese
Commonly an ingredient in pasta and grilled cheeses, as well as a topping on many a dish, one wouldn't expect parmesan cheese to lend itself well to a soupy broth, but that is exactly what Giada De Laurentiis suggests home cooks do to up their soup games. According to De Laurentiis' Instagram post, parmesan broth "adds much more flavor than veggie stock" and acts as her "secret ingred in soups, stews & risotto."
Her Parmesan Brodo, as she calls it, involves a broth filled with umami filled flavors like parmesan, plus the usual broth ingredients like carrot, celery, garlic, and onion, plus some herbs "in place of vegetable or chicken stock." And apparently the secret's out, as Bon Appetit posted a similar recipe for Parm Broth in 2014, which garnered a 4-out-of-5-star rating. This is one recipe you're definitely going to want to save to your Pinterest board for when the weather cools down.
