Oreo cookies never fail to disappoint, no matter the occasion. According to Spoon University, the cookies are even loved and celebrated in more than 100 countries. They also have a rich history, being first created all the way back in 1912 in New York City. Interestingly, there is a specific process that is followed when it comes to making these delectable cookies — every biscuit gets baked for 290.6 seconds at two different temperatures. 

It's not just your imagination if you can't seem to get enough of these delicious treats. Oreo cookies are highly addictive and fully of sugary goodness. Also, fans have lots of flavors to choose from such as peanut butter pie, java chip, chocolate, carrot cake, chocolate marshmallow, dark chocolate, caramel coconut, and more. But which flavor do fans like and appreciate the most? To answer this tough question, Mashed conducted a poll with 593 participants across the U.S. to find out. 

Chocolate wins this round

Survey participants were asked to pick their favorite flavor from a list that included several popular varieties. Chocolate was the most preferred option at 28.67%, followed by mint at 19.22%, and peanut butter at 14.33%. Meanwhile, the birthday cake flavor came in towards the middle of the pack with 12.14% respondents rooting for it. Other flavors included lemon at 10.46%, s'mores at 10.12%, and carrot cake coming in last place at 5.06%. 

So, what makes the chocolate version the ultimate favorite? The brand's description for its chocolate Oreos might help to explain why people love it so much. "Supremely dunkable, Oreo cookies sandwich a rich creme filling between the bold taste of two chocolate wafers — making them milk's favorite cookie," it reads. However, one this is certain, Oreo flavors remain a hot topic. A Redditor wrote that they'e partial to chocolate creamed Oreos because the biscuits remind them of chocolate ice cream. Another Oreo fan wrote, "I'm a sucker for...regular double stuff. There's something about them, I [don't know]...my runner-up is probably the vanilla cookie birthday cake. It's very sweet but in a way that appeals to me."
