Domino's Introduced A Banana Calzone, But Only In One Country

If you're thinking "banana calzone" sounds like something generated straight out of a round of Mad Libs, you're not alone. We had to do a double-take on this menu item as well! Putting bananas into calzones seems a bit more unusual, than, say, putting banana peppers into calzones. If the combination intrigues you and you want to try it out for yourself, you'll have to bid adieu to your favorite stateside Domino's location and hop on a plane.

The country serving up banana calzones is France. According to Brand Eating, the official name for Domino's creation is the Banana Cal'z, and the innovative dish is actually a dessert made of baked pizza dough and filled with caramelized banana compote. If that's not enough to make you want to book a flight, the sauce may change your mind. According to the outlet, the Banana Cal'z is served with a chocolate-hazelnut-flavored sauce "for dipping or drizzling." Sounds très delish!

Domino's has other interesting calzone options in France

When it comes to calzones, Domino's has a variety of savory options in France as well. According to Brand Eating, there's a Samurai Cal'z that is filled with mozzarella, kebab meat, and Samurai sauce, a popular Belgian sauce for French fries comprising mayo, Tunisian chili, spices, tomatoes, and bell peppers (via Expatica). There are also Cal'z options with a number of tasty-sounding ingredients like goat cheese, French honey, roast chicken, and curry (via Brand Eating). That means you could potentially have a calzone for your main course and a Banana Cal'z for dessert!

If you like a little more Americana in your calzones, then you would have loved a promotion Domino's had in France back in 2019. According to Brand Eating, that year the chain introduced the Cal'z Hot Dog. This unique dish was a calzone stuffed with, yes, sliced hot dogs and yellow mustard to boot. There was even a Hot Dog Pizza available at Domino's in France at the time, according to the outlet, that had an optional hot-dog stuffed crust. Needless to say, we're going to have to coordinate our next voyage to France with Domino's calzone promotions!
