The Taco Bell Meal Reddit Is Calling The 'Saddest Doritos Locos Taco'

We hate to be the ones to tell you this, but your favorite fast food chain has been lying to you. Actually, scratch that. It's not just fast food chains, but pretty much all chain restaurants, in general, and they've been doing it for years. Don't worry, you're not being catfished, or anything like that, but you know how restaurants tend to entice consumers by featuring food in advertisements? Well, as it turns out, practically all of that grub is doctored up to look way better on screen than it will in real life. So, now that we think about it, maybe you are being catfished, after all.

Photographers have plenty of tricks up their sleeves to make whatever grub they're shooting look extra appealing for the camera. "Let's say we're shooting a beef burger. It may not be cooked all the way through because we want to maintain the size of the burger," one food stylist explained to CNBC. Tools such as tweezers, toothpicks, paint, small blowtorches, and even motor oil may also be used to manipulate food on set.

Needless to say, the food you see in commercials or on menus isn't always what you get. But even with the industry's clever trickery in mind, we doubt anybody would be prepared for the meal one Redditor was recently served at Taco Bell, which they dubbed the "saddest Doritos Locos Taco." Once you see it, you'll understand why.

How would you feel if Taco Bell served you this Doritos Locos Taco?

Restaurant grub may not come out looking exactly identical to their photos. However considering that food advertisements sometimes use things like undercooked burger patties to make food look as drool-worthy as possible for the camera, it might be for the best. Still, most consumers probably expect their meals to look at least somewhat similar to what they've seen advertised on television. So when Reddit user u/sbwboi received what they called "the saddest Doritos Locos Taco" from Taco Bell last week, it's no wonder they were a little upset.

"It's basically all shell with a spoonful of filling," the Redditor explained in a post on December 13. They also shared a photo of the Doritos Locos Taco in question, which was barely full of toppings and, at first glance, didn't even appear to have any beef inside its cheesy shell.

Many others shared in the Redditor's misery over the far-from-picturesque T-Bell meal. "Noooo that's taco abuse," u/Sensitive_Ant9280 commented. "'Can I get that extra sad, please?'" another quipped. A third called the sight "terrible," while Reddit user u/TheThingy claimed the DLT was "the worst one [they've] seen." That's a pretty bold claim considering that another Redditor recently shared a photo of the "saddest Enchirito to ever exist." Though you can't necessarily expect Instagram-worthy meals from fast food eateries, this Taco Bell order definitely missed the bar.
