TikTok Is Literally Salivating Over Candy Salads
Candy salad, which is part of the "dessert salad" family, has been part of many family traditions over the years, especially at potlucks or social gatherings. Part of the appeal of dessert salads is how little time it takes to prepare such yummy treats. One famous dessert salad is called the Watergate salad, and it's made with pistachio-flavored instant pudding, mini marshmallows, whipped cream, canned or fresh pineapples, and nuts, per All Recipes. Another popular dessert salad recipe is called Snickers Salad and has been a Midwestern United States tradition for a while, according to Atlas Obscura.
The Snickers salad is made up of chopped Snickers candy bars, whipped cream, sliced apples (Granny Smith are best), and is often prepared with vanilla pudding. Most people have heard of TikTok but for those that haven't, it's a huge assortment of videos, ranging from comedy to cooking to outer space. Creators from the food side of TikTok have recently introduced a wild concept called a candy salad, playing off of the dessert salad platform. Can you guess what a candy salad is made of? Here's a hint: it's not lettuce.
Candy salads are not for the faint of heart
Candy salad is what users on TikTok call a bowl full of candy, usually packaged as small and bite-sized, or cut up with some scissors to make the size of the candy easier to eat. TikTok user @zoi.dunn posted an epic candy salad recipe that included mini Starbursts, Sour Patch Strawberries, Airhead Extreme Bites, Nerds Clusters, gummy watermelons, mini Swedish Fish, Sweetart Ropes, Mamba Sticks, gummy bears, and Laffy Taffy Bites. In another candy salad variation, TikTok user @jamievanslooten combines Sweetart Ropes, sour gummy worms, Nerds Gummy Clusters, Sour Patch Kids, and Sour Punch Straws in a large white bowl and captioned the video "My fave kind of salad."
One cool thing about the viral candy salads is that they are easily customizable, and each TikTok candy salad recipe consists of different candies. TikTok user @hunterkailey uses some of the same candies as the other TikTok users mentioned above, with the addition of peach rings, Jolly Rancher gummies, and Twizzler bites. Candy salad is so popular that even Nerds shared their own version of the recipe on their official TikTok. The Nerds candy salad recipe included four different kinds of Nerds: Nerds Gummy Clusters, Nerds Ropes, Big Chewy Nerds, and the classic pebble-like rainbow Nerds. The hype behind candy salad is real, with one TikTok user commenting on Nerds' TikTok, "If that was salad I would be eating that a lot." Be sure to practice moderation with these salads.
