The Five Guys Order Customizations You Should Definitely Be Requesting
When you have a hankering for a fast food burger, few are as satisfying as Five Guys. The popular chain, which was founded in Washington, D.C., in 1986, is famous for its basic yet delicious menu offerings: burgers, dogs, fries and shakes. Plus, Five Guys promises to only use fresh (never frozen) ground beef for its patties and peanut oil for its fries. If you've ever eaten at one of its 1,500 locations across the country, you're well aware that despite the fact the menu is limited, the options for customizing your order are seemingly unlimited.
You may know some of the obvious customizations, like adding cheese or asking for your burger sans bun (lettuce wrap, please and thank you). There are 15 different free toppings to choose from and according to the Five Guys fan page, there are over 250,000 ways to personalize your order. However, there are some in particular that only employees know and recommend.
There's a lot of cheese, bacon, and even Oreos involved
In a Reddit thread, Five Guys employees shared the best creations they've come up with on the job, from the tastiest to the weirdest. One of the most common responses was something that's unofficially on the Five Guys secret menu, as well: the patty melt. It's essentially a cross between a grilled cheese and a burger, with a beefy patty stuffed into the classic grilled cheese sandwich. One person said they also like to add jalapenos or Cajun seasoning to the patty melt for added flavor. For burger eaters, another employee recommended cooking the patty in BBQ sauce for a smokier bite.
There were also a lot of suggestions for creative side options. One employee said they love melting cheese over fries and then adding crumbled bacon and chopped jalapenos on top. Others had ideas for customizing milkshakes, including bringing your own cereal to mix in or, according to one person, mixing Oreo cream with salted caramel for the best sip.
