Costco's Gluten-Free Breaded Cod Is Turning Heads

In the past few years, gluten-free diets have not only been recommended to those with certain medical needs, but the diet has also been adopted by those looking to reduce inflammation or solve other digestive issues. At its core, a gluten-free diet is most effective and important for those with celiac disease, a condition that Celiac.org describes as an occurrence in which "the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine."

According to Food Retail Trends, there have been a growing number of gluten-free labels popping up in stores, ready to cater to shoppers who are looking to avoid gluten. Costco, known for its abundance of food and other products, has fully embraced that trend. So much so, that its fan are taking notice of even the frozen gluten-free fish. An Instagram post by Costco Buys is gaining momentum for its announcement of Hook, Line, and Savor's Gluten Free! Everything Crusted Cod.

Something's fishy, in a good way

Apparently, the attention-grabbing fish has been on shelves at Costco before and has made a resurgence, but only in Midwestern warehouses. As CostcoBuy notes, the breaded cod product "is also gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free and is tree nut and sesame free as well." Followers are eating it up, noting they've been waiting for it to come back. "Oh so have to try this!!!" one commenter wrote. Another commenter promised that if Costco brought the gluten-free cod back to Texas, they would happily renew their lapsed membership.

She Knows covered its emergence in 2020, noting that the fish, which is coated only with everything bagel seasoning, comes amid a trend of not only gluten-free food, but a rising popularity of "everything-but-the-bagel-esque products" which they themselves have been using to inspire recipes. With so many pluses, it's no wonder people are flocking to shelves to snatch these up!
