Dairy Queen's Returning Blizzard Is Perfect For Reese's Fans

While many fans of Dairy Queen's Blizzards may already have their favorite flavor from the regular line-up, the fast-food chain often adds new limited-edition or seasonal offerings that may sway even the most devoted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Blizzard or Oreo Cookie Blizzard lovers.

For Reese's fans, who once fell in love with the creamy, chocolate-y, peanut butter-packed flavor in the Reese's Extreme Blizzard and then mourned when it was taken off the menu, there's some good news — it's back as the limited-edition Blizzard of the Month for August 2021 (via Chew Boom). However, it's actually available at participating U.S. Dairy Queen locations starting on July 26, so if you want to get a head start on the crowd you just might be able to get your hands on one of these tasty frozen treats early.

So, what exactly makes this limited-edition Blizzard any different than the regular Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard that is always on the menu? Well, while the regular flavor has vanilla soft serve blended with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (via Dairy Queen), the Reese's Extreme Blizzard starts with that same vanilla soft serve and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups base, but then also includes Reese's Pieces, creamy peanut butter topping, and chocolatey topping. It's practically an ode to Reese's — so if you're a fan of the chocolate and peanut butter flavor combination, you may want to get your hands on one of these!

What the fans are saying about the Reese's Extreme Blizzard

Given that this particular Blizzard flavor has been available at Dairy Queen previously, any diners who are on the fence about straying from their usual order to try out this limited-edition treat can easily look up reviews from when it was offered in the past. A reviewer from The Impulsive Buy back in 2017, for example, noted that while there weren't too many Reese's Peanut Butter Cups to be found in the Blizzard, there were plenty of Reese's Pieces, and that the mixture was "heavy on the peanut butter."

The YouTube channel Melz&Chris got their hands on one recently and released a review video on July 27, 2021, in which they shared their thoughts (via YouTube). "The ice cream has so much peanut butter in it that it tastes like peanut butter ice cream," one of the channel personalities commented, seeming to concur with The Impulsive Buy's reviewer.

So, while any Reese's fans will probably find something to love about this Blizzard, any peanut butter enthusiasts in particular may want to give it a try, as it seems the combination of the peanut butter topping and the two types of Reese's confectionaries within makes the combination quite heavy on the peanut butter side of the flavor equation.
