Every Cold Stone Creamery Flavor Ranked Worst To Best

Cold Stone Creamery is an ice cream chain that offers a variety of flavors. Whether you prefer your ice cream fruity, rich and chocolatey, or packed with peanut butter, there's a good chance that Cold Stone Creamery has you covered. However, if you're confused about which flavor to order from the shop, you're not alone. The sheer number of flavors on the menu can be quite intimidating and if you don't already have a flavor picked out before entering the store, you may find yourself standing around for a while before deciding on a particular flavor.

Cold Stone Creamery offers so many flavors, and some are truly remarkable, while others border on average. The best way to avoid any indecision before placing your order is to do your research and work out which flavors you simply must try as opposed to the ones you should probably just skip. And, as always, feel free to make adjustments to your order based on your taste preferences.

27. Somewhere Over the Rain-dough

Cold Stone Creamery's Somewhere Over the Rain-dough flavor is perfect for sugar lovers. However, for those who prefer something more exciting in their ice cream, this flavor is a no-go. The cookie dough ice cream doesn't taste like anything but sugar; it doesn't even have the complexity of a good vanilla ice cream. Cold Stone Creamery adds frosting to the mix, which makes the ice cream taste sickly sweet and gives the texture of the ice cream a strangely oily consistency.

The added sugar crystals create an overall result that will make you feel like you've had enough sugar for a full six months. The sprinkles are the only enjoyable aspect of this ice cream flavor. Sure, they're wholly unnecessary, and they add even more sugar to the mix but they do bring a little more color and vibrancy to this otherwise bland flavor

26. PB Dough Delight

The PB Dough Delight is definitely not amongst the best of the flavors Cold Stone Creamery offers although some peanut butter fans out there might disagree. This ice cream has a peanut butter cookie dough ice cream base, which definitely sounds quite promising. Unfortunately, the peanut butter flavor is just too strong: It makes the cookie dough aspect of the flavor almost entirely unremarkable.

The Reese's Peanut Butter Cups do add something special to the mixture and the pieces of cookie dough are fairly nice. But beyond the drizzle of chocolate fudge, there's not enough going with this flavor to keep it truly interesting. While it's exciting to find a flavor that allows Reese's peanut butter cups to shine like the stars they are, the Cold Stone Creamery menu has other offerings that are inspired by Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, so you might be best off opting for those instead, unless, of course, you really have a thing for peanut butter, in which case the PB Dough Delight might be for you.

25. Birthday Cake Remix

Here's another one for the sprinkle lovers: The Birthday Cake Remix flavor. While this Cold Stone Creamery menu offering sounds good in theory, the taste simply doesn't come together. This flavor starts out with cake batter ice cream, which isn't actually a super flavorful base on its own, but, when combined with other additions, can be quite effective. Rainbow sprinkles, fudge sauce, and brownie pieces are then added to the base to create this flavor.

The result is the fever dream of any small child with a ravenous sweet tooth. And, while it does sound delicious, this flavor tends to get old after just a few bites. Although the Birthday Cake Remix does look great, it's not a super interesting combination of flavors and textures. Considering the creativity of some of the other Cold Stone Creamery flavors, this selection isn't too impressive. While many adults may find this flavor to be a bit boring, it will probably be a hit amongst kids.

24. Oreo Overload

While it's exciting to come across a flavor that is packed with Oreos, unfortunately, Cold Stone's Oreo Overload flavor simply isn't the best of the best.  The sweet cream ice cream base is unremarkable, as it's basically a less flavorful form of vanilla ice cream. The additions of chocolate chips, Oreos as well as fudge don't effectively turn this flavor into an exciting option: This is the kind of average ice cream you could find just about everywhere, even at the grocery store.

While the Oreos are enjoyable and the fudge provides a nice sticky texture, it's simply not enough to keep things interesting. If you love Oreos and always choose Oreo ice cream above all else, then this may be your go-to order whenever you make your way to Cold Stone Creamery. But considering the fact that there are so many better, more interesting options on the menu, it's unlikely to be your first choice.

23. Founder's Favorite

This flavor may be the favorite among Cold Stone Creamery founders Donald and Susan Sutherland, but sadly, the Founder's Favorite simply doesn't make the cut. It comes down to an issue of too much simplicity and not enough creativity, just like with the Oreo Overload. The Founder's Favorite starts off with sweet cream ice cream, which basically tastes like super-sweet vanilla. The ice cream is dotted with pecans, fudge, and caramel. Dig into a bowl of this ice cream long enough, and you'll also unearth pieces of brownie, which is undoubtedly the best part.

While the Founder's Favorite is a solid choice if you're looking for something simple and inoffensive, it's not the best choice if you're looking for the absolute best that Cold Stone Creamery has to offer. This is likely to be one of those flavors that you try once and rarely order again.

22. Cake Batter Batter Batter

While baked goods are almost always appealing, there's something about the batter that tastes even better: The thick but drippy consistency of the dough and the graininess of the sugar are simply delectable. It's no wonder that Cold Stone Creamery's Cake Batter Batter Batter is so delicious: The cake batter ice cream is made even more incredible by the cookie dough and brownie pieces. The creamy texture of the ice cream plays well with the thick doughiness of the other ingredients, although the ice cream could do with more dough in the mix.

Cake Batter Batter Batter could also be enhanced by some kind of sweet sauce such as caramel, hot fudge, or even strawberry syrup. Luckily, you can personalize your ice cream at Cold Stone, so don't be afraid to ask for exactly what you want. Mix-ins such as cinnamon, pecans, whipped topping, and sugar crystals are also available.

21. Cookies Make Everything Batter

As mentioned, Cold Stone Creamery's Oreo Overload flavor is a little unimpressive and falls quite flat. And, while the Cookies Make Everything Batter isn't much different from the Oreo Overload, there are a few differences that make this flavor come in above its Oreo counterpart. First of all, this flavor is made with cake batter ice cream, which is a cut above some of the other Cold Stone Creamery base flavors.

In addition to traditional Oreos, this flavor also incorporates Golden Oreos, which makes the taste a little bit more interesting. The whipped topping adds an extra touch of indulgence if you're looking for something extra decadent.

While this may not be the most groundbreaking flavor you've ever tried, it's still great, especially if you're a big fan of Oreos. While there are other, better options at Cold Stone Creamery, this is still a solid option, especially for those who might be too picky to go for a flavor option that is a bit more adventurous.

20. Apple Pie A La Cold Stone

If you've ever had a hard time picking between apple pie and ice cream for dessert, Cold Stone's Apple Pie A La Cold Stone ensures that you don't have to choose. This flavor is absolutely a dream come true for pie lovers everywhere. It all starts with the French vanilla ice cream, which is just sweet, subtle, and yet tasty enough to keep the senses engaged. The base is followed by graham cracker pie crust, cinnamon, apple pie filling, and caramel. All these flavors meld together to create an ice cream flavor that does, in fact, taste very much like apple pie.

While this is a wonderful flavor, there are a few factors that affect the overall deliciousness: First of all, this ice cream has just too much caramel. The apple pie filling and the ice cream itself have a certain level of sweetness and the addition of caramel takes things too far. The apple pie filling and the ice cream itself already contribute to the overall sweetness, and the addition of caramel simply takes things too far. Plus, the cinnamon notes are a little bit too strong, although this flavor is probably a good option for cinnamon lovers.

19. Banana Caramel Crunch

Bananas and ice cream tend to work together as a pairing, as evidenced by the classic banana split. But if you want your banana-ice cream mashup to look a little different then you might consider ordering the Banana Caramel Crunch, which contains French vanilla ice cream mixed with ripe bananas, caramel, and almonds. This flavor is a truly wonderful mixture of crunchiness from the almonds and mushiness from the bananas, giving it a fantastic and exciting texture.

Sadly, when it comes to the flavor, the Banana Caramel Crunch kind of falls flat. The vanilla ice cream is definitely overpowered by the other elements and the caramel is too sweet to allow the overall taste profile any kind of sophistication. The bananas and almonds are fantastic together, but this flavor has far too much banana and the almonds tend to fall short. If you love bananas in your ice cream, you should certainly order this flavor; if not, there are probably better Cold Stone Creamery flavor options for you to choose from.

18. Chocolate Devotion

For chocolate lovers at Cold Stone Creamery, there's no doubt which flavor is likely to be the most ideal: The Chocolate Devotion is the best option for those who can't get enough chocolate in their diet. This chocolate ice cream is thick and rich, and the flavors are bolstered by the chocolate chips, fudge, and pieces of brownie. Every bite will deliver more richness and more of that chocolate flavor you love.

But for those of us who just want a taste of chocolate without being completely overwhelmed by it, this flavor may not be the best choice. Because every single component of Chocolate Devotion consists of chocolate, the intense taste can get old after a while. If you're going to order this flavor, you might want to try only getting a tiny scoop of the stuff. Of course, if you really can't get enough chocolate in your life, then order as much of this flavor as your heart desires.

17. Peanut Butter Pretzel Time

Some ingredients, such as chocolate chips, mint, and even cookie dough, are frequently found in ice cream shops and tend to be quite common additions to popular flavors. Peanut butter and pretzels are also found in ice cream flavors, though they tend to be less common. Peanut butter adds a kick of fatty nuttiness that makes every bite of ice cream so much richer, and pretzels tend to add a nice crunch and plenty of salt to balance out the sweetness of a good ice cream. Perhaps that's why the Peanut Butter Pretzel Time flavor from Cold Stone Creamery is so delicious.

The flavors play exceptionally well together, and it's a novel creation that surprises the taste buds whilst also delighting them. The only issue with this flavor is that it has too much peanut butter and not enough pretzels. If you're wild about peanut butter, you'll probably enjoy this Cold Stone offering, but others may enjoy the added saltiness of extra pretzels. Overall, the Peanut Butter Pretzel is a great flavor, but a few tweaks could make it even more delicious.

16. Dough-lightful Peanut Butter

There may be too much peanut butter in the Peanut Butter Pretzel Time flavor; luckily, things seem to be more balanced when it comes to the Dough-lightful Peanut Butter ice cream. This flavor has cookie dough ice cream as a base which is then mixed in with broken-up pieces of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, which gives this ice cream a wonderful, super-salty peanut butter quality. The result is magical. The cookie dough ice cream complements the intense flavor of the peanut butter very well. This is clearly a match made in heaven.

Sugar crystals are placed atop this ice cream, and although they offer a delightful crunch, they add an unnecessary layer of sweetness to the mix. The Dough-lightful Peanut Butter would benefit from the addition of flaky salt to combat the sweetness of the dessert and balance things nicely. That being said, the flavor is quite enjoyable as it stands.

15. Mint Mint Chocolate Chocolate Chip

Not everyone likes mint, and this flavor definitely isn't a great option for those who hate it. However, Cold Stone Creamery's Mint Mint Chocolate Chocolate Chip is quite delicious, even if some people think it tastes like toothpaste. The mint pairs exceptionally well with the chocolate in this flavor, making it a solid option for those who don't enjoy an ice cream that is on the mintier end of the spectrum.

Mint ice cream takes center stage here, and chocolate chips and bits of brownie are the supporting actors. The fudge swirls give this flavor the added layer of chocolate that you're looking for. Although this is a delicious combo, it's not very original. Of course, while every menu needs a mint option, Cold Stone hasn't done anything too interesting with this one. It's a good flavor, but it's far from excellent and it's certainly not one of Cold Stone's best creations.

14. Dough For It!

Sometimes, you need to keep things simple and just go with what you already know you're going to like. When you're in the mood for a safe but delicious option, you can't go wrong with the Dough For It! This cheerily named flavor starts with a cookie dough ice cream base, which is yummy enough as it is. Then, bits of dough are added in to take things to the next level and add a thick layer of chunky sweet softness.

To make things more exciting, chocolate chips and sugar crystals are mixed into the concoction: While these extra ingredients aren't bad, it feels like they're mostly there for texture, not flavor. The general doughiness of this ice cream is quite wonderful. This option is tasty, it's reliable, and it'll always get the job done. That being said, while you can't go wrong with Dough For It!, this certainly isn't the most interesting or unique of creations.

13. Cookie Doughn't You Want Some

Customers sure do love their cookie dough. Cold Stone Creamery's Cookie Doughn't You Want Some flavor shakes things up and really delivers on a delicate but delectable take on the Dough For It! and traditional cookie dough ice creams. This ice cream starts off with French vanilla ice cream, giving this flavor a wonderfully subtle and understated base to work with that balances nicely with the added chocolate chips.

The cookie dough definitely doing the heavy lifting here, but it gets a hand from both the fudge and the caramel syrup. These double-duty sauces do a great job adding a ton of sweetness and flavor to the otherwise rather nondescript ice cream concoction. While the fudge tends to tip this flavor over into being slightly too much, the generous portions and ingredient proportions are quite enjoyable. This is a lovely option for cookie dough lovers.

12. One Smart Brookie

The One Smart Brookie flavor at Cold Stone probably isn't the wildest ice cream flavor out there, but it is a simple creation that you might not have tried before. The One Smart Brookie starts out with a classic cookie dough ice cream which provides a wonderful base for the addition of even more cookie dough. The dough is quite prevalent in this flavor, unlike other blends in which the dough is lost in a sea of ice cream. Brownie chunks are added as well, giving this ice cream an added layer of density.

This Cold Stone Creamery offering tastes like biting into classic baked goods with swirls of ice cream and chocolate. This flavor is sweet, filling, and satisfying, and while it may taste similar to other flavors you've seen at ice cream shops, if you love brownies and cookie dough, you're probably going to fall in love with One Smart Brookie.

11. Cookie Minster

An ice cream that just contains Oreos: Good, but boring. A mint ice cream with chocolate chips: Also delicious, but not groundbreaking. However, when you combine these two already-solid ideas into one ice cream flavor, the results are nothing short of fantastic. That's what makes the Cookie Minster flavor so incredible: The mint ice cream forms the perfect carrier for a doubled serving of Oreo cookie chunks. The ice cream also contains plenty of fudge, which is exactly what this dessert dish needs.

Since the chocolate from the Oreos is relatively subtle, the fudge provides the exact kind of gooey richness that takes this ice cream to the next level. This flavor is truly a unique offering that combines creativity and subtlety into a yummy blend. While the mint flavor may be a little intense for some, for lovers of mint, the Cookie Minster is an exciting no-brainer.

10. Reese's Peanut Butter Awesome Sauce

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are the most popular candy of all time and for good reason. These milk chocolate-covered peanut butter discs are literally chocolate perfection. This popular confectionery item, when incorporated into any dessert, tends to really enhance the profile and richness of the dish. That's exactly the case with Cold Stone Creamery's Reese's Peanut Butter Awesome Sauce flavor. This flavor is way better than Cold Stone's other Reese's based flavor, the PB Dough Delight, even though there's less going on in the Reese's Peanut Butter Awesome Sauce offering.

The Reese's Peanut Butter Cups really take center stage in this flavor: They add plenty of sweetness and a touch of saltiness to the mix, while also creating a wonderful texture.  The soft peanut butter gives way under the firm-but-gooey chocolate that forms its encasing. Cold Stone adds even more peanut butter goodness to this ice cream in the form of Reese's Peanut Butter Sauce. While this flavor is quite simple, it's also incredibly delicious.

9. Surrender to Strawberry

Cold Stone's Surrender to Strawberry flavor is a refreshingly fruity treat. Thick, luscious strawberry ice cream lays the base for the dessert, and the addition of yellow cake chunks makes this ice cream even richer by adding a spongy-sweet layer of texture. The fact that this option combines two different kinds of dessert through the addition of cake really gives this ice cream a refreshing feel, making this flavor a truly indulgent and exciting dish.

Strawberries are also added to the mixture and provide the freshness and juice that makes the taste as refreshing as it is creamy. The inclusion of whipped topping adds an excitingly celebratory feel while also giving this dessert a creamy, scrumptious quality. While not everyone enjoys fruit-based ice creams, if you're looking for a flavor that will change the way you look at strawberry ice cream, you can't go wrong with Surrender to Strawberry.

8. Mud Pie Mojo

At first glance, the Mud Pie Mojo flavor may look a little wild and a little over the top. However, while it may be bold and chaotic, this flavor is actually one of Cold Stone Creamery's best offerings. The coffee ice cream, which forms the base for this flavor, is truly special. This wonderful base is combined with an addition that might hit you out of left field: Oreos. Yes, Oreos and coffee together may sound strange together, but this truly is a brilliant combo.

Peanut butter and almonds are also added to this flavor to form a layer of nuttiness: While the two may have similar flavor profiles, they contribute in various ways to the texture and thereby complement each other quite effectively. The peanut butter provides a lovely creaminess and the almonds offer a slight crunch. The inclusion of fudge swirls brings the whole ensemble together in a sugar-laden climax that is the culmination of a true dessert dream and absolutely must be sampled.

7. Our Strawberry Blonde

The Our Strawberry Blonde flavor is a truly delicious offering: Like the Surrender to Strawberry flavor, it also features strawberry ice cream as the base, but instead of carrying the soft doughiness of yellow cake, this flavor instead includes a graham cracker pie crust. The pie crust is denser than cake which gives this flavor a welcoming thickness of texture as well as a wonderful yet subtle biscuity crunch.

Strawberries are a central component of this flavor. The whipped topping provides a lovely level of creaminess while the caramel flavor acts as a key flavor component and lures the senses with its exciting flavors. This ice cream essentially tastes like a deconstructed strawberry pie that is frozen and then defrosted to the perfect temperature so that it can be enjoyed on a muggy July day. It would appear that strawberry pie lovers have found the perfect ice cream for the hottest days of summer.

6. Peanut Butter Cup Perfection

Cold Stone Creamery's Reese's-based ice creams may be great, but this one is the most delicious of the lot due to its chocolate ice cream base: The Peanut Butter Cup Perfection flavor at Cold Stone is made with a fantastically fudgy ice cream that offers the perfect level of creaminess. This chocolate ice cream may just be one of Cold Stone Creamery's best flavors ever. Peanut butter is also added to this already perfect ice cream base, making this flavor a truly nutty and indulgent offering.

Then, to make things even more indulgent, broken-up pieces of Reese's are added to this dessert, giving this flavor its name. These chunks of chocolate and peanut butter add both rich chocolatey flavor as well as delicious texture to this dish. A light swirl of peanut butter and a generous drizzle of fudge finish things up. What's not to love about this clever combo?

5. Berry Berry Berry Good

When you're looking for a fresh, simple, and uncomplicated dessert, Cold Stone Creamery's Berry Berry Berry Good is one of the best options out there. The flavors are classic but on point: Thick ice cream with juicy additions of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. That's it. No extra frills of toppings, sprinkles, or fudge, just the basics. Ice cream lovers who are looking for something understated and, yes, even a little sophisticated, will definitely want to give it a try.

The sweet cream ice cream is, as the name suggests, quite sweet. That's why it works so well with the berries. They're nice and tart, which helps balance out the intensity of the sugar in the ice cream. When it all comes together, it's easy, breezy, and undeniably delicious. Who says that a trip to Cold Stone can't mean getting in an extra serving of fruit into your meal intake for the day?

4. The Way the Cookie Crumbles

Fruity freshness is all very well and good but what about the people who happen to have a more aggressive sweet tooth? If you're looking for something chocolatey (without being too intense or bitter), super-sweet, and absolutely decadent, then you can't go wrong with Cold Stone's The Way the Cookie Crumbles. As you've probably already guessed, Cold Stone uses cookie dough ice cream to form the base for this dessert. Then, crushed Oreos are added to the mix. Whipped topping is also added, giving this dessert a lighter texture.

What's not to love about this simple but very delicious combo? Unlike some of the other cookie dough creations on this list, this one doesn't feel too heavy, despite the chocolate cookies and whipped cream. This ice cream is quite rich, but it's not overwhelming. It likely appeals to cookie fans and decadent ice cream lovers alike, making this flavor option ideal for sharing.

3. Germanchökolätekäke

German chocolate cake is one of the best chocolate desserts on the face of the planet, which is why the Germanchökolätekäke flavor is one of the best flavors on Cold Stone Creamery's menu. This flavor starts with a chocolate ice cream base that is just as creamy and smooth in this iteration as it is in the Mud Pie Mojo. This ice cream base is followed by the all-important addition of coconut. Coconut and chocolate truly do belong together, making this flavor an incredible feast for the senses.

The addition of pecans provides some much-needed crunch, along with pieces of brownie and a generous drizzle of caramel. There's a lot going on in this ice cream, and that's what's truly great about this it: The interplay of different textures and different levels of sweetness come together in a coherent profile that genuinely exudes German chocolate cake energy. It's fun, it's intense, and it's the kind of flavor that can be ordered repeatedly without it becoming too monotonous.

2. Coffee Lovers Only

Those who enjoy coffee ice cream will agree that it is a superior flavor, one that combines the texture of your favorite dessert with the rich bitterness of your favorite early-morning/after-dinner delicacy. Cold Stone Creamery's Coffee Lovers Only ice cream flavor is the coffee lover's dream: It contains all the necessary ingredients that make this offering an undeniably decadent dessert. Pieces of Heath Bars are added to the ice cream, and almonds add even more texture (as well as a nutty flavor) to the mix.

The caramel brings a heavy dose of sweetness as well as a touch of saltiness to round things out. This ice cream isn't for the faint of heart, nor is it for those who are looking for something that's on the lighter side. But if you're trying to indulge and you don't want a standard chocolate number, then the Coffee Lovers Only might be exactly what you're looking for.

1. Cheesecake Fantasy

And finally, the best Cold Stone flavor of them all: The Cheesecake Fantasy. Ice cream and cheesecake go fantastically well together as two incredible desserts. But when you order the Cheesecake Fantasy from Cold Stone, you're not just going to be getting a cream cheese-flavored ice cream. Instead, you'll enjoy your cheesecake ice cream with generous helpings of blueberries and strawberries added to the mix. Their tartness and slight sweetness make this dessert feel both fresh and decadent at the same time.

Since the crust is an important component of any cheesecake, Cold Stone has incorporated plenty of graham cracker pie crust into this flavor. This flavor is so good that it almost tastes better than an actual cheesecake. The creamy cheesiness combines with vibrant, slightly acidic fruit notes and a biscuity, crumbly texture to deliver spoonfuls of heaven right into your mouth. Once you've tried this flavor, you're bound to emerge as a Cheesecake Fantasy convert.
