  • Angela has more than 10 years of experience in communications, publishing, and journalism in a variety of industries, including cybersecurity, energy, and food writing.
  • Angela loves to write, edit, and scuba dive, in that order. She currently holds a PADI Advanced Open Water certification in diving.
  • Having lived most recently in both Oregon and Washington, DC, Angela returned to her home state of North Carolina, where she currently explores the history and culture of the cuisine of the U.S. South.


Angela is the writer, editor, and site designer for the food blog "Speaking of the South." She creates both short and long-form narratives about food trends, cookbooks, restaurants, foodways, and food culture. Her particular focus is on the U.S. South in a global context.


Angela received her MA from Duke University with a concentration in Russian, Slavic, and East European Studies and holds a BA from NC State in English. She has lived and studied in both Hungary and Russia. Her experiences in Eastern Europe and Russia broadened her culinary experiences and allowed her to develop global connections.
