We Tried Krispy Kreme's Biscoff Doughnuts And Didn't Leave A Single Crumb In The Box
It's a new year, so what better way to kick off this season than with a new collaboration with Krispy Kreme Doughnuts? This week, Krispy Kreme launched a first-class partnership with Lotus Biscoff for the first time ever in the United States. The collection combines the unique flavors of both brands to bake up three new doughnuts that will take fans on a sweetness rollercoaster. Imagine Krispy Kreme's Original Glaze doughnuts combined with Lotus Biscoff's Cookies and Cookie Butter, known for its sweet, caramelized cookie taste.
We've had the privilege of trying most of Krispy Kreme's new launches, such as their Spook-Tacular Doughnuts and Santa's Bake Shop Collection. Naturally, we raced to our local Krispy Kreme to grab this collection and provide you with an honest review — and just know, we've set the bar extremely high with the many delicious and unique doughnuts that preceded this launch. We tried Krispy Kreme's new Biscoff Doughnuts, and here's how it went.
What's in the Biscoff Doughnuts collaboration?
Krispy Kreme rolled out new sweet treats that combine the delicious doughnuts we know and devour with Lotus Biscoff's Cookies and Cookie Butter. The Biscoff Lover's Dozen — as it's called — consists of three Biscoff Iced, three Biscoff Cookie Butter Kreme Filled, three Biscoff Cookie Butter Cheesecake, and three of Krispy Kreme's Original Glazed doughnuts. As avid doughnut lovers, we already know the delicious flavor of Krispy Kreme's Original Glazed doughnuts.
The Biscoff Iced Doughnut takes an Original Glazed doughnut and dips it in Biscoff Cookie Butter icing. The Cookie Butter Cheesecake Doughnut also starts with an Original Glazed dipped in Biscoff Cookie Butter icing, and then tops it with a swirl of cream cheese frosting and Biscoff Crumble. Finally, the Cookie Butter Kreme Filled Doughnut is a shell doughnut filled with Biscoff Cookie Butter Kreme filling, dipped in Biscoff Cookie Butter icing, and topped with a swirl of dark chocolate icing and Biscoff Crumble.
How much do they cost?
To align expectations, we want to add a disclaimer that we tried this doughnut dozen in Southern California, where prices can be higher than in other parts of the country. If you live in a different area, check Krispy Kreme's website to see what prices look like in your city. The price change, if any, will likely be minimal.
Krispy Kreme's affordability remains one of the best parts of the doughnut shop. We bought the Biscoff Lover's Dozen for $19.99. If you break that price down, you're getting each doughnut for under $2. Other desserts, like cakes from a bakery, cost much more per serving — just to put it in perspective. With the impressive price, this delicious dozen is worth every penny, and we suggest getting the dozen because you'll undoubtedly want to try every new flavor and share them with your friends and family. That is, unless you want to keep them all to yourself, and we support that too.
How long and where will it be available?
Starting on January 9, 2023, Krispy Kreme's Biscoff Doughnuts will be available until January 29, 2023. If you want to get your hands on these sweet treats, go to a shop or order online from any participating stores in the U.S. or Canada. In addition to checking the online store locator, we suggest calling your local store to confirm if they're carrying the exclusive doughnuts.
For this collaboration, the shop will deliver these fresh doughnuts daily to nearby grocery stores, so you're in luck if you can't make it to Krispy Kreme. These may include your local Walmart, Kroger, Food Lion, Publix, Stater Bros., Wakefern, and more. Only a few of Krispy Kreme's previous collaborations and seasonal doughnuts we've tasted have been offered in grocery stores, so this is definitely a stand-out move. Run, don't walk: You'll want to take advantage of this opportunity before it's too late.
What is the nutritional value of the doughnuts?
With every new year comes new year's resolutions, and for many, eating healthier or adopting healthier habits is one of those goals. Krispy Kreme provides nutritional information for all of its creations, so you can check if the new collection aligns with your health and diet goals. The Biscoff Doughnut collection offers a variety of doughnuts with calorie counts ranging from 190 to 420.
The Original Glazed doughnut, one of the classic favorites, contains 190 calories and 10 grams of sugar. The Biscoff Iced Doughnut has slightly higher values, with 280 calories and 15 grams of sugar. Climbing up the calorie ladder, the Cookie Butter Cheesecake Doughnut clocks in at 310 calories and 18 grams of sugar. Lastly, the Cookie Butter Kreme Filled Doughnut contains 420 calories and 20 grams of sugar. These doughnuts are for sure a sweet treat, but we believe everything is good in moderation.
How do they compare to other flavors?
Here at Mashed, we love cookie butter, so the stakes were high when tasting these doughnuts. For the sake of comparison, we referred back to our last review of Krispy Kreme's Santa's Bake Shop Collection, as it's fresh in our minds and a challenging dozen to beat. Before we dive into the limited edition doughnuts, it should go without saying that we love a classic Glazed Doughnut, so those were a win.
The Biscoff Iced Doughnut offered the same simplicity with the addition of sweetness from the cookie butter icing. The glaze made an impact but was not overpowering. Our taste testers couldn't keep their hands off the Cookie Butter Cheesecake Doughnut. The swirl of cream cheese frosting added the perfect sweetness and brought us back to the Santa's Bake Shop Collection's Red Velvet Cake doughnut with cream cheese frosting. Finally, the Biscoff Cookie Butter Kreme Filled doughnut provided the ideal amount of Kreme inside, contrasted with cookie crumbles on top, making for a sweet combination. The Krispy Kreme Biscoff collection is already giving the next holiday or special launch a run for its money.
The verdict
Krispy Kreme's Biscoff Doughnuts exceeded our expectations. The only thing that could top this delicious dozen would be if every purchase included a jar of Lotus Biscoff Cookie Butter. Can you imagine how sweet a Biscoff Iced doughnut dipped in cookie butter would taste? This first collection of 2023 definitely served up the perfect amount of sugary goodness, but we think there's always room for more.
If you want to kick off the new year with a little indulgence, grab a dozen of the new Krispy Kreme Biscoff Doughnuts. The Biscoff Iced, Biscoff Cookie Butter Kreme Filled, and Biscoff Cookie Butter Cheesecake sent our tastebuds for a ride and had us dreaming of seconds with every bite. They are not to be missed.
The verdict: We left no cookie butter crumbs behind. We couldn't get enough of Krispy Kreme's Biscoff Doughnuts and want to start a petition to keep these offerings around all year.
