Obama's Favorite Pizza Is A Chicago Thin Crust
Over time, plenty of evidence has supported the fact that United States presidents — past and current — hold pizza close to their hearts. Gusto Pizzaria, located in the Polish town of Głogów Małopolski, actually renamed a pizza to honor President Joe Biden after he made a surprise visit along with U.S. troops (via The First News). Reportedly, Biden asked the owners which pizza they recommend, in which they suggested one topped with cheese, olives, mushrooms, pepperoni, and jalapeños. After his visit, Gusto Pizzaria renamed the pizza Spicy Joe and invited the president to return whenever he'd like.
Former President George H.W. Bush frequented Fuzzy's Pizza in Houston, Texas, even befriending the owners and staff (per NBCDFW). "Secret Service came two hours ahead, checking the place, everything. And here comes Mr. Bush. It brightens my day," owner Fuzzy Hajjar said of the late president's first visit. Bush would always order the same thing: a pizza with artichoke hearts, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, Italian sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, and black olives. Former President Barack Obama has a favorite pizza, too, which hails from a certain Chicago eatery.
The Obamas prefer the thin crust option
According to Insider, Barack Obama's favorite pizzeria is located just around the corner from his Chicago home. Italian Fiesta Pizzeria is known for its Chicago deep-dish pizzas as well as thin-crust varieties. When Obama won the 2008 presidential election, the five-store chain promised to bring the pizza to Washington D.C. (per Washingtonian). It stayed true to its word, loading up enough ingredients to produce 200 of the brand's pies. Unfortunately for Chicago-style pizza lovers in D.C., Italian Fiesta Pizzaria didn't put down roots in the city, preferring to stick to its home in Chicago and the surrounding area instead.
Though deep-dish pizzas are the Chicago way, Barack and Michelle opt for thin crust, according to Daily News. Their favorite ingredients remain unknown. "We're still trying to figure out what their favorite kind of pizza is," said Patti Harris-Tubbs, co-owner of Italian Fiesta Pizzaria. However, she did reveal that they're fans of vegetable toppings. It's likely Michelle introduced Barack to the company, as Harris-Tubbs explained the former first lady dined at the pizzeria as a reward for getting good grades as a child. It seemed to make an impression because the former First Family still loves thin-crust pizza to this day.
