1 In 3 People Surveyed Chose This As The Worst Starburst Flavor

Anybody that tells you they don't have a favorite candy is lying. Though their sweet tooth might not be strong, everybody has a go-to treat they reach for at the convenience store to satisfy their craving for something sugary-sweet. And while chocolate goodies may reign supreme, there are plenty of fruity options such as Starbursts, the iconic, square-shaped candies that first hit shelves in the U.K. in the early 1960s (the exact year is unclear, per Snack History) before making their way overseas to America in 1967.

There have been many variations of the long, rectangular pack of chewy candies out on the marketplace during their 50-plus year history, including tropical and sour varieties. However, the original flavor quartet found in a pack includes cherry, lemon, orange, and strawberry – and people have opinions on them. A recent survey conducted by Mashed polled 504 individuals in the United States, one-third of whom revealed that there was one specific Starburst flavor they'd rather not end up with when snacking on the treat.

Not many people enjoy the citrus-flavored Starburst candies

When it comes to indulging in a pack of Starbursts, a whopping 35.12 percent of people said that the lemon-flavored candy, colloquially known as the "yellow" Starburst, was the worst one to chow down on. That's right – one in three would chuck that particular chew in favor of another one.

Citrus flavors seemed to be an unfavorable flavor profile overall when it comes to Starbursts, as the orange-flavored candy took second-worst in the poll with 23.61 percent of the votes. Cherry (or "red") came in third, being found undesirable by 17.86 percent of surveyees, while the strawberry Starburst, better known as "pink," was only rated the worst flavor by 13.29 percent of voters, which is probably why so many people went crazy over the news last year that the "All Pink" Starburst pack would be a permanent fixture to the candy aisle (via Candy Industry).

Additionally, 10.12 percent of the respondents chose "other," with several writing in that they were not fans of the chewy fruit treats at all. Perhaps they're into some of the newer candy options, such as the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup with Pretzels or Snickers Peanut Brownie.
