California Pizza Kitchen Has Exciting News For Gluten-Free Pizza Fans

Although California Pizza Kitchen didn't originally set out to make pizza at all (pasta was the original idea), it's quickly become the staple dish of the brand. The restaurant chain is always trying out something new — for example, they were the first large dining establishment to add barbecue pizza to their menus. So, it should come as no surprise that California Pizza Kitchen always has more exciting items for their fans to try — and their latest announcement is great for anyone that is gluten-free but also really loves their pizza.

Businesswire has revealed that CPK is launching a new pizza crust made solely out of chickpeas — and they are the first national chain to do so. There are so many amazing ways to use a can of chickpeas, and we're happy to see this versatile ingredient being used in more creative ways, especially as a non-gluten base for carb dishes. Chickpeas are also known to be a good source of protein, and according to Food Business News, CPK's new chickpea crust has even more protein and fewer carbs than its traditional pizza crust.

Where you can find the new chickpea crust

Of course, the main ingredient in CPK's newly launched chickpea crust is chickpeas, but according to Businesswire, there are also chia seeds and honey packed in for even more nutrition and flavor. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the chickpea crust is available nationwide just yet. Food Business News reports that the new offering will start out in California Pizza Kitchens in Southern California as well as Florida — but you can always visit the restaurant's website and try to order online to see if it's available near you.

If you can't get the chickpea crust near you, that doesn't mean there aren't delicious options to pick from when eating here. Businesswire explains that CPK also has a version of their barbecue pizza that's plant-based and they still offer a gluten-free pizza crust made out of cauliflower. Like with chickpeas, cauliflower is often used as a "secret ingredient" in gluten-free and health-conscious dishes. So, whether you're vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free, there's something for everyone to enjoy at California Pizza Kitchen.
