The Surprising Thing Guy Fieri And Gordon Ramsay Have In Common

One hails from Scotland, and the other called Ohio his home. One drives a cherry red 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible, and the other owns both a Ferrari and a Porsche (via JamJar). One is TV's highest-paid chef who likes to pal around with the owners of small-town BBQ joints (via Inside Hook), and the other boasts a staggering 35-restaurant culinary empire and screams curse words at high-class restaurant owners (via Fine Dining Lovers). Yes, Gordon Ramsay and Guy Fieri are both legends in the world of cuisine. But, at first glance, these two seem to be polar opposites.

On closer inspection, however, the food fanatics may have a bit more in common than you may think. After all, both Ramsay and Fieri have colorful personalities –and in Gordon's case, a colorful vocabulary to boot — and enjoy a good meal prepared by skilled, talented people. Perhaps, there's one unique thing that both of these radical restaurateurs have in common: And it all leads back to Fieri's family roots.

Guy Fieri's middle name is Ramsey

Guy Fieri's name wasn't always just Guy Fieri. His birth name was actually Guy Ramsey Ferry, which means that his middle name is the same as the famously foul-mouthed culinary master's last name (via Biography). Now, before one goes spreading the rumor that Fieri and Ramsay are actually long-lost Flavortown brothers, the Italian roots name of "Ferry" will help to clear some things up (in addition to the fact that the two names have a different spelling).

The name Fieri was actually in the family for generations before Guy. His grandfather carried the last name of Fieri before arriving to the United States, where he anglicized it into the name Ferry. In 1995, after marrying his then-and-current wife, Lori Fieri, Guy changed his last name back to the traditional spelling (via Grub Street). The reason for this change wasn't to avoid a feud with the other Ramsay, but rather to honor his Italian grandfather.

Although it is still up for debate if Fieri and Ramsay are actually rivals, or if the rumors are simply common speculation, one thing is for certain: Both men do enjoy a darn fine meal.
