Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis don't agree on what it takes to do their jobs
Even longtime friends will eventually find something to argue about. What's interesting about Bobby Flay's and Giada De Laurentiis' disagreement is that it's all about something you'd think they'd be able to agree on: what it takes to be a television chef.
Their debate is a sort of chicken-or-egg situation, one they discussed in an interview with The New York Times. The point of contention centers around what innate ability a person needs to have to be a good television chef, specifically whether it's culinary skills or an on-air persona that makes for the best TV chef. "If you can cook, if you have the authority, if you have the knowledge, if you have the experience, if you're a really good cook then I can teach you how to do television over time," Flay said.
His Food Network colleague, however, sees things differently. "I don't think you can teach someone how to be dynamic on television. I think you can polish them to be better at their craft," De Laurentiis claimed. "I do think you need to have the basics of cooking. But again, I think I can teach someone cooking skills more than I can teach them TV skills [...] I think you need to have some dynamic spark and I think that's hard to teach."
At least they'll have something to debate over their coming years of friendship.

We know Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis ate their way through Italy last year and now we understand what sent them on this European culinary retreat. It turns out the duo was filming a new food show for Discovery's streaming service discovery+.
The show, "Bobby and Giada in Italy," which premiered in January, follows the dynamic duo on their six-week journey through the country's famous towns and regions, including big cities like Rome and visually stunning, food-rich regions such as Tuscany. Along the way, Flay and De Laurentiis got to experience Italy's most famous meals and ingredients, including gelato, Pecorino cheese, Rome's famous four kinds of pasta (Carbonara, Amatriciana, Gricia, and Cacio e Pepe, according to Cook's Illustrated), and of course, as much pizza as they could consume.
The trip was a homecoming of sorts for both famous chefs. Giada De Laurentiis was born in Rome, while Food Network reports that Bobby Flay relocated to Italy several years ago to experience firsthand all the country has to offer.
Giada De Laurentiis' boyfriend has a connection to Bobby Flay
Fans of Giada De Laurentiis likely already know that she has been dating producer Shane Farley since 2015. What most people might not know is that Farley also has a connection to Bobby Flay.
In 2013, Farley was hired to produce a talk show for De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay, People reports. Unfortunately, the project never came to fruition, but it wasn't a complete loss. During the process of trying to put the show together, De Laurentiis and Farley began a relationship, one that continues to this day.
"After I got divorced, I spent about a year and a half alone, not dating, just figuring things out. I had been with [my daughter] Jade's dad for 25 years. I didn't know what it meant to not be married," she told People. "Once I got settled, [Shane and I] reconnected and I felt like a kid again."
