It feels like the gap between the start of summer and the beginning of pumpkin spice season shrinks just a little bit more with each passing year. And for the most part, people aren't upset about it. Per a 2021 poll conducted by Morning Consult, a quarter of Americans say they're ready for all-things pumpkin spice around the end of August. While many people associate the fan-favorite flavor combination with the iconic Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, the coffee chain is far from the only business keeping customers anticipating the seasonal food tradition.
Krispy Kreme, for instance, has won over many fans with its assortment of pumpkin spice donuts in recent years — particularly the Pumpkin Spice Original Glaze. First released as a single-day offering back in 2016, per Refinery29, the donut became an instant hit, inspiring the chain to release other warmly spiced variations. Pumpkin Spice Cake, Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Filled, and the short-lived Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Roll are just a few examples.
Of course, one thing Krispy Kreme fans know all too well is that the donut chain tends to only offer these seasonal treats for a short period, which means being in the know of their arrival is crucial for those who don't want to miss out. With that in mind, we decided to do some research to predict when these seasonal sweets might make their grand return.
Krispy Kreme may drop the donuts on Labor Day
If our estimations are correct, we have a hunch that Krispy Kreme fans will be grabbing their first pumpkin donut of the season just as we're all packing away our white pants for the year: right on Labor Day. How did we come to this conclusion? Historically, Krispy Kreme has consistently dropped its fall lineup right around the holiday weekend, usually preceded by an announcement a few days in advance. Last year, Delish reported on Thursday, September 2, that the pumpkin donuts were arriving on Monday, September 6.
We did some digging on the brand's social media and confirmed a similar pattern in previous releases: September 1 in 2020, September 2 in 2019, and September 3 in 2018. Of those four dates, three of them fell on the Labor Day holiday or first Monday in September. The only outlier was 2020, when the donut dropped on a Tuesday. However, we know that was an odd year for everyone, so we'll take it as a blip.
With this data in mind, we predict the exact date fans can expect their precious pumpkin spice donuts to show up at U.S. Krispy Kreme locations will be Monday, September 5. Of course, the jury's still out on whether the chain will follow last year's release model and roll out the donuts for only a week, or if we'll get them for longer. But at least now you have the heads up!
