The Peanut Butter Jar Hack You Never Knew You Needed

All the peanut butter lovers out there know the struggle is real when it comes to the bottom of the jar. The sticky, icky mess that results from trying to scrounge the last of the peanut butter from the jar is something that's plagued us since the dawn of peanut butter times.

Luckily, TikTok is here to hack our lives once again. TikTok user @shopsplat shocked and amazed us all when he demonstrated this trick, based on an original post by another TikTok user, @equivocal_intuition (via Delish). If you've ever found yourself staring longingly at a PB&J or a perfectly melty piece of peanut butter toast while you hastily wash errant peanut butter off your hands, you'll understand why this speedy trick is life-changing. Not only does it allow you to scoop your peanut butter without a mess, this hack brings the jar back to like-new quality, complete with a manufactured-looking swirl on top!

How to make your almost-empty peanut butter jar look new again

This peanut butter jar hack is simple enough, all it requires is a clear countertop or floor space and two hands. Start with a near-empty, sloppy jar of peanut butter (we all have one in the pantry) and screw the lid on extra tight. (User @pheonixha discovered an insufficiently tightened lid will allow some oil to escape if you're hacking a natural variety of peanut butter.)

Once your lid is secure, simply spin the jar. Yep — that's it! Spin it several times on its side, on the floor or on a counter. A hack that requires almost no effort is our favorite kind of hack. Even better is the smooth, swirly result that awaits you when you open the jar. When you unscrew the lid, you'll reveal a perfectly spiraled peanut butter surface, all concentrated at the top of the jar, as if you had just popped the seal on it for the first time.

Peanut butter might be the perfect food

Peanut butter seems to be as old as time, or close to it. According to the National Peanut Board, it was invented in 1895 by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg — the cereal guy. He developed peanut butter as a protein substitute for his elderly patients whose teeth were so bad that they could no longer chew meat. So, peanut butter itself began as a hack!

Luckily, people of all dental makeups can enjoy and benefit from this salty and sweet treat today. Aside from being a good source of protein, peanut butter is nutrient-rich (via Very Well Fit), full of healthy fats, and is delicious in zillions of recipes. Considering the average Joe will eat almost 3,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in their lifetime (via National Peanut Board), a hack to make the process tidier is a welcome lesson. The next time you find yourself wrist-deep in a jar of this superfood, remember to give it a spin and make it like new again.
