What People Can't Believe About The Great British Baking Show's Noel Fielding

On this past week's episode of The Great British Baking Show, a seemingly innocuous comment made by host Noel Fielding sparked an internet frenzy. Fielding's fellow comedian, Matt Lucas, remarked during the show: "Yeah, that joke works best if you're over 45," following a dance performance from the popular'80s British television series, Emu's All Live Pink Windmill Show. Fielding concurred, adding: "If you're under 45, just carry on with TikTok," (via Delish).

After hearing this off-hand, lighthearted exchange, the Twitterverse rushed to find out Fielding's age. Many people were surprised to find the youthful-looking comedian is actually 47 years old, according to Famous Birthdays.

Although Fielding has amassed a large audience of fans during his time on The Great British Baking Show, which he joined in 2017, his career actually started all the way back in 1990s on the stand-up comedy circuit. He began performing shows around London before getting into the TV business.

Noel Fielding began performing in the 1990s

Fielding was born on May 21, 1973, in Westminster, London, but grew up around Pollards Hill. He began acting in the late 1990s, landing appearances on TV series such as Gas, Unnatural Acts, and Comedy Cafe. He made his first film appearance as Brothel Gent in the 1999 film Plunkett & Macleane. He achieved more mainstream success while performing with The Mighty Boosh comedy troupe in the early 2000s, and in 2012 he struck out on his own with his solo comedy show, Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy, per Famous Birthdays.

He has gone on to appear in many other popular series, including The IT Crowd and Trailer Park Boys, according to IMDB. He has most recently appeared in the comedy films The Festival and The Lego Movie 2, and lent his voice acting to the animated series Twelve Forever and Close Enough. While Fielding's age might have come as a surprise to some people, the beloved The Great British Baking Show host shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
