The Big Change Coming To Skittles In 2021

In the middle of a heated Twitter war with M&M'S, Skittles has acquired some new ammunition. M&M'S may be the United States' favorite candy, as their electoral map suggests. Or, as Skittles alleges, we might be dealing with a serious case of fraud. (And for what it's worth, Twix seems to be on Skittles' side in this head-to-head). Regardless, in 2021, Skittles is preparing something of a scorched-earth operation: It's releasing gummies. "We called some people, had a few meetings, talked to the candy makers, ate lunch, took a nap, met with finance and then said 'let's do it!' says Skittles in its Twitter announcement.

Skittles' Twitter followers are already licking their lips. "HEY BESTIEEE," wrote one skittle-hungry Twitter user. "A work of art really. love ya skittles," gushed another. Walking Dead actor Sunkrish Bala and Bones actor Pej Vahdat are also on board. "I need those," moaned Vahdat, to which Bala replied, "Eyes on prize."

Everything we know about Skittles' new gummies

Before we go any further, here's a PSA: Remember how Skittles said that it talked to finance before committing to a new, gummy version of itself? A Twitter user thought they meant "fiancé," and then Skittles claimed that it's engaged to Snickers. With (barring any premarital drama) Snickers, Twix, and, in 2021, gummies on Skittles' side, M&M'S has some serious competition. "The bite-sized gummy candies will feature a bursting like texture and flavor experience that is sure to wow fans' taste buds," Skittles said in a press release (via Delish).

As of 2021, you'll be able to purchase two varieties of Skittles Gummies: Original and Wild Berry. The Original bag will contain strawberry, green apple, lemon, orange, and grape flavors, while the Wild Berry bag will contain berry punch, strawberry, melon berry, wild cherry, and raspberry flavors. Honestly, we haven't been this excited since Skittles came out with bubblegum in 2004 (via Today).
