Why You Should Think Twice About Buying Kirkland Signature Silver Tequila

Costco's in-house brand Kirkland Signature is a huge deal for fans. Consider this: a CNN piece last year noted that Kirkland managed to beat other brands like Campbell Soup, The Hershey Company, and Kellogg's combined in terms of sales. Karen Short, a retail analyst at Barclays, told CNN that Kirkland has really managed to hold its own as a brand. She explained, "It is one of the reasons people go to Costco. That's not necessarily something you can say about many private labels."

According to Moneywise, some of the best Kirkland Signature items you can buy are its extra virgin olive oil, maple syrup, cashews, organic eggs, clover honey, and pulled pork. The brand also has quite a few liquor options available for its shoppers, most of which are certainly worth the money. However, as with any private label brand, some of its items are better than others. And when it comes to liquor, Kirkland Signature Silver Tequila is one item that you probably won't be raving about. Here's what you need to know about the product.

The flavor profile of Kirkland Signature Silver Tequila is overwhelming

While Kirkland has three tequila varieties to choose from (Añejo, Silver, and Reposado), they aren't the same in terms of quality. While both Reposado and Añejo are impressive to consumers, the Silver is a huge letdown. Its flavor is so overpowering that you'll forget that there's anything in there besides, well, alcohol. It's nearly impossible to taste things like agave, citrus fruits, and the other flavors that are supposed to make tequila the drink that it is.

A Reddit user had solid advice. They wrote, "I'm mixed on the silver tequila. Solid for mixing, but completely unpalatable for straight. If you're thinking large batch of margaritas, to me, it's perfect for that." So, if you decide to buy Silver to serve at your next gathering, just remember that the experience will be average unless it's creatively concocted in a recipe. You could, however, try Kirkland's Añejo with ice for a better experience.
