The Best Hangover Food, According To Chrissy Teigen

Having drinks with friends can be a good time, but after a handful of beers and hard seltzers you know what's waiting for you come sunrise. And nothing is worse than waking up with a pounding headache, dry mouth, and that uneasy feeling in your stomach that makes you question whether or not you're going to have to make a beeline to the toilet.

So, what's the solution to curing a wretched hangover? Traditionally, the answer is always carbs — just ask any college student. However, carbo-loading isn't the end all be all, according to registered dietician Lizzie Streit, MS, RDN, LD. She tells Healthline, the best way to ease hangover symptoms is by eating fresh fruits like bananas, blueberries or watermelon, eggs, meat, nuts, and fast-acting carbs like crackers.

She also mentioned ginger as a hangover remedy, which happens to be a key ingredient in Chrissy Teigen's go-to hangover food recommendation.

Chrissy Teigen swears by her mom's rice porridge

In an interview with Delish, foodie queen and Cravings cookbook author Chrissy Teigen revealed that the best cure for a nasty hangover isn't something you can order through a fast food drive-thru. It's her mom's homemade rice porridge.

Otherwise known as Jok Moo, Vilailuck — Teigen's mom — first introduced her daughter to the hearty, slow-cooked porridge as baby food because of its rice consistency (via People). Eventually, it took on the role as a hangover favorite. Jok Moo can include your choice of seasonings, but Teigen loves garlic and fresh ginger. "[They] make everything go away," she explains to Delish. According to Streit, ginger is a classified hangover home remedy as it has been proven to help with nausea or other upset stomach issues in relation to hangovers (per Healthline). For protein and an extra punch of flavor, Teigen recommends making little pork meatballs to add to your rice porridge.
