Popular Bojangles' Menu Items, Ranked Worst To Best

If you love chicken and biscuits more than the next person, then Bojangles' may just be your fast food dream come true. Their biscuits are actually made from scratch every 20 minutes and the chicken is never frozen, so you know you're always getting something fresh. If you live in the South, there's a good chance you come across this restaurant on the regular. If not, you'll just have to trust us when we say this chain is something special if you have a craving for Southern fast food.

But if you haven't eaten there much, you may not know what to order. After all, the menu can be a little bit intimidating if you don't already know exactly what you want. That's why we're here to help you out. We've compiled a list of some of the most popular items on the menu, and ranked them from worst to best. That way, you'll have a better idea of what you should order the next time you get a craving for some fast food biscuits. Let's take a closer look.

24. Sweet potato pie

If there's one item on the menu we would highly suggest you don't try, it's the sweet potato pie. A lot of fast food desserts are less than desirable, but this one takes the cake (pun intended). It's a puff pastry that looks completely mass-produced — almost like something that would come out of a public school cafeteria. It's filled with a sweet potato mixture that barely tastes like sweet potato. Rather, it's just cloyingly sweet with no texture at all. Really, the only flavor that's truly perceptible is sugar.

The cinnamon butter spread does a little bit to help out this dessert, but not enough for us to encourage you to try it out. Bojangles' has a few other desserts to choose from, and you should definitely go for those instead. Otherwise, you're better off stopping for dessert somewhere else, because there's a good chance you'll want to avoid the sweet potato pie like the plague.

23. Garden salad

Sometimes, you just want something healthy and fresh on the side of your fast food meal. That makes perfect sense: If you're eating a lot of fried food, crispy, fresh greens make the perfect side dish. And that's why you may consider ordering the garden salad from Bojangles'. We're here to tell you, you're not likely to love this bowl of veggies. As you might expect from a fast food side salad, this menu item is about as plain as it can get. The base is made of, you guessed it, iceberg lettuce. It's also topped with cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, and some other fresh veggies, but let's be honest: The toppings are not impressive.

The sprinkling of cheese on top may just be the saddest part. It just sits there in all its shredded glory, adding nothing but salty, tasteless dairy to the top of this salad. Our tip? If you're actually looking for a salad at Bojangles', choose an entree salad with chicken instead. You'll be glad you did.

22. Macaroni and cheese

It seems like mac and cheese is one of those dishes that's pretty difficult to mess up. After all, it's just pasta and cheese, right? What could possibly go wrong? Well, apparently, the answer is a lot because the mac and cheese you'll find at Bojangles' leaves a lot to be desired. You know how the best pasta is cooked al dente and has a bit of a textural bite to it? That's not what you're going to get from the mac and cheese at this fast food spot. Instead, the elbow macaroni is basically just a soggy mass of wheat. Not exactly what you want to eat on the side of your delicious biscuit.

The cheese sauce doesn't make things much better. Sure, it has a faint flavor of cheese, but that's about it. It almost tastes like there aren't any spices in this mix. Overall, it's just incredibly boring with very little texture and taste.

21. Steak biscuit

You've probably been to plenty of fast food joints for breakfast in your time, and many of them order very similar items. You've always got the biscuit with egg, cheese, and some sort of meat, right? But since Bojangles' is known for its biscuits, it makes sense that it would try out biscuit combos that you may not be as familiar with. One of those entrees? The steak biscuit. In theory, this biscuit should be amazing. It's just country-fried steak on a thick, buttery biscuit — what could possibly go wrong?

Unfortunately, we need to tell you that it's not that good. The steak is not as tender as you may like. Although we love that the steak's been deep-fried, that seems to have dried it out a bit. When you pair that with the already very dense biscuit, it results in a breakfast sandwich that's legitimately hard to get down. If you're looking for a breakfast that will help get your day off to the best start, this is not it.

20. Green beans

We get it: Not everyone wants to order yet another order of fries for their side dish at a fast food restaurant. Sometimes, you want to change it up and try something that's healthier — or at least different than what you're used to. Therefore, the green beans at Bojangles' sound like a solid option. If you're truly a fan of green beans, though, you're about to be disappointed. Why? Because they might just be the most boring side dish you've ever eaten.

While the Bojangles' website says that these cooked green beans are combined with plenty of seasoning, that flavor really doesn't come across. Rather, it'll just taste like you're eating plain, overcooked green beans. You could buy a can of green beans from the store instead, and you'd spend a lot less (and probably enjoy them a lot more once you use your own seasoning). We respect trying to branch out and ordering a new side, but we would avoid this one if we were you.

19. Coleslaw

It's probably not a massive surprise that the coleslaw didn't come out that highly in the ratings. How many fast food coleslaws have you tried that you legitimately enjoyed? If you're like us, probably pretty few. If you're considering ordering Bojangles's coleslaw anyway, though, let us just warn you: It's not worth it.

The first thing you'll notice about this coleslaw is the fact that it's nearly colorless. It doesn't look like it's packed with veggies — rather, it kind of appears to be a pale, washed out, off-white color that's not exactly appetizing. It's mixed with a special blend of spices, but the flavors aren't particularly good. There's nothing interesting happening. Plus, the veggies seem kind of sad and wilted.

It's always a great idea to get some veggies on the side when you're ordering fast food, but these are probably not the kinds of veggies you'll actually enjoy when you sit down to eat them. Choose something else from the sides menu next time.

18. Grilled chicken salad

We hate to say it, but the grilled chicken salad from Bojangles' is not a delicious entree. We wish it were, because it seems like one of the healthier items on the menu. After all, just because you're going to a fast food restaurant doesn't mean you don't want a meal that's going to make you feel good. However, we wouldn't recommend choosing this salad unless you like a meal that's a bit bland. Like the garden salad, there's really nothing to the veggie portion of the meal. The lettuce is watery, and the other veggies are sparse. Plus, the cheese on top is less than appetizing.

We hoped that the grilled chicken would save this salad from being a disappointment, but unfortunately, that just wasn't the case. This grilled chicken tastes like it's barely been seasoned. Who says that you need to have tasteless chicken in order to eat a healthy meal? Definitely not us.

17. Egg and cheese biscuit

If you're looking for potentially the most boring breakfast sandwich you've ever eaten in your life, you're going to love the egg and cheese biscuit you'll find at Bojangles'. Let's start by saying this: the egg and cheese biscuit doesn't taste bad, per se. There's nothing really wrong with it. The biscuit is good, and the egg and cheese taste like just that: egg and cheese. But since there's nothing else on this biscuit, it ends up being a bit of a disappointment. Neither the egg or the cheese are particularly flavorful, so you'll find yourself missing something meaty or more substantial.

Picky eaters and little kids might find that this breakfast sandwich is a tasty option, but if you truly want the best biscuits that Bojangles' has to offer, we think you should pass this one up in favor of the delicious breakfast biscuits we'll discuss next.

16. Sausage biscuit

Now, we have to admit that the sausage biscuit is better than the egg and cheese biscuit at Bojangles'. Again, the biscuit tastes amazing, and when it's paired with the saltiness of a slab of meat, you can't go wrong when it comes to flavor. However, the sausage biscuit has a similar problem to that of the egg and cheese biscuit: There's just not enough going on. We found ourselves wishing there were literally anything else on this sandwich. A single slice of cheese or some honey butter would have gone a long way, but we were left disappointed.

Those who are looking for a breakfast that's on the simple and smaller side might find that this is a solid option on those mornings when they're on the go and can't grab something more substantial, and that's totally understandable. Just know that you're probably not getting the tastiest item on the menu.

15. Grilled chicken sandwich

We definitely didn't like the grilled chicken salad, but luckily, the grilled chicken sandwich is a step up ... but just barely. One thing that we like about this sandwich is the fact that you know you're going to get a really substantial hunk of meat on your sandwich. That means by the time you finish, you're almost guaranteed to be all filled up. However, when it comes to the actual flavor of the sandwich, we just weren't that impressed. That chicken, substantial though it may be, does not seem to contain a substantial number of spices. It's juicy, sure, but it barely has any taste to it at all.

The rest of the sandwich is pretty standard. Lettuce, tomato, and mayo add a bit more texture and give the sandwich a bit of flavor, but it's not enough for us to justify purchasing this sandwich. While it might be a bit healthier than the fried options, it's just not as tasty.

14. Homestyle tenders salad

Are you looking for a salad that's going to be more enjoyable than the others we've mentioned? If so, it looks like you should consider the homestyle tenders salad. As you may have guessed, the actual salad portion of this entrée doesn't differ that much from the others we've discussed so far. It still contains lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, carrots, grape tomatoes, and that weird yellow cheese. The salad itself is a bit disappointing, but we haven't even gotten to the star of the show yet: the chicken.

On top of this salad, you'll find fried chicken fritters that are going to transform this sad pile of veggies into a decent meal. As long as you have a piece of chicken in every bite, you're probably going to enjoy this salad. Is it the best salad we've ever had in our lives? Of course not. But if you find yourself at Bojangles' and need to get your veggies in, it's something you should at least consider.

13. Bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit

You can't find a more basic breakfast item than a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, right? That means that at Bojangles' — and pretty much anywhere else you grab a meal to get your day off to the best possible start — you know that a classic bacon, egg, and cheese is going to be a viable option. Do we think that it's the best dish you can find at Bojangles'? Definitely not. There are much more creative items on the menu that we prefer. But if you're the kind of person who wants to stick to what you know, then this biscuit may just be the way to go.

The flavors of the bacon, egg, and cheese go well together, as you might expect. The bacon provides the saltiness and crispiness the soft and melty egg and cheese need to really shine. Our only complaint is that we wish there were a bit more bacon in the sandwich. The bacon is pretty sparse, and that's not ideal.

12. Sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit

Sure, the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit is certainly a solid option, but if you want something that's even tastier, we would suggest the sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. As you've probably guessed, this breakfast is essentially the same as the one before — just replace the bacon with sausage, and you get the idea. Again, this is a pretty basic sandwich, and it's something you can get about everywhere. In our book, that makes it less special than other, more unique items you'll find at Bojangles'. But when it comes to taste, this one gets a thumbs up.

Unlike with the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, you're actually going to get plenty of meat in this one. The sausage patty is pretty thick, which means it adds the perfect amount of umami to the rest of the biscuit. Plus, that sausage is super juicy too — and who doesn't love when the juices from the sausage soak into the biscuit?

11. Country ham biscuit

One biscuit that you won't be lucky enough to find at most other fast food chains is the country ham biscuit. When you first see this thing, you probably won't be too impressed. It doesn't look like anything special. But wait! Don't send it back just yet. Take a bite, and you'll see that it actually has a really interesting flavor you won't find from many other items on the Bojangles' menu. The country ham is what's also known as Canadian bacon, but it's been fried to crispy perfection. It's not too thick, but considering it has such a strong flavor, there doesn't need to be much of it to compete with the biscuit.

While this sandwich may be exceedingly simple, sometimes, that's just what you want. And with this breakfast, simple doesn't mean you're not going to get a ton of flavor. It's a good option to consider if you're sitting in the drive-thru and just can't figure out what to order.

10. Bo-Tato Rounds

You can always get french fries on the side of your biscuit, but for some reason, that just doesn't feel right. Another type of potato might work better. Enter the Bo-Tato Rounds. These are basically a kind of hash brown, but instead of being in the standard rectangle or oval shape, they're shaped like small discs. While you could pair these with just about anything from Bojangles', we think they're especially good with the breakfast options. They're a nice side dish that just about everyone will like. And the potatoes have a hint of onion in them, which certainly makes them more interesting.

Bo-Tato rounds aren't exactly revolutionary: You're probably seen similar potatoes at plenty of different restaurants. But if you really want a side dish first thing in the morning, we think this is your best option. Here's a tip: Instead of eating them on the side of your sandwich, you can put them inside the sandwich to take your biscuit to the next level. Sounds delicious, doesn't it?

9. Dirty rice

Okay, so we've got your breakfast side dish sorted out... but what about lunch and dinner? If you're getting bored with fries and want to try something new, we encourage you to try the dirty rice from Bojangles'. This isn't something you'll find at every fast food restaurant, which is what makes the New Orleans-inspired flavor so exciting. Rice, sausage, and a ton of spices come together to make this delicious side.

Now, we're going to be honest: You shouldn't expect a classic, homemade-tasting dirty rice because, well, you're at a fast food restaurant, not a New Orleans long-time neighborhood favorite. Keep your expectations in check so you don't get disappointed by the side dish. Overall, though, it's a super tasty option, and we love that we get the choice to pick something that's not just a carton of fries. This side pairs well with just about every entrée on the menu.

8. Bo-Berry biscuit

Bojangles' may not be known as a place to get dessert, but if you're already there and you're craving something sweet, we know exactly what sweet treat you should order. The Bojangles' menu has a few different options, but you'll need to choose wisely if you want to make sure you're getting the best possible sweet tooth fix. That's why we think you should get the Bo-Berry biscuit.

It's a sweet biscuit filled with "Bo-Berries," which are just Bojangles' fancy name for blueberry bits. The biscuit itself is flaky and moist, just like the brand's other biscuits, with a strong blueberry taste. The sweet icing drizzled on top of the whole biscuit really sets this dish apart, too.

If you want to try a dessert that you know you can't find anywhere else, then the Bo-Berry biscuit should be your next go-to sweet tooth fix.

7. Southern gravy biscuit

There's perhaps nothing more Southern than classic biscuits and gravy. It's a classic that's stood the test of time because it's just that delicious — and filling to boot. However, you may not think of it as something you can grab from a fast food restaurant. Well, we'd like to introduce you to the Southern gravy biscuit at Bojangles'. It basically tastes like it's right out of a Southern grandma's kitchen. The savory gravy soaks into the soft, buttery biscuit, resulting in a texture you're sure to love. The little pieces of sausage in the gravy add a salty flavor to the dish that makes it even more appealing.

The only reason this menu item doesn't rank higher on our list is the fact that it's difficult to eat on the go — or even if you're just sitting in your car. And considering that 80% of the company's revenue comes from the drive-thru, that doesn't seem like the ideal situation. If you have the time to sit down with a knife and fork with this biscuit, though, it's something you have to try.

6. Supremes tenders

Chicken tenders aren't always the most exciting item on a menu, especially considering they're a dish that you can find just about everywhere. Therefore, we think it's generally best to skip the tenders and go for something slightly more adventurous. However, when you're at Bojangles', it's all about the chicken, so you should feel free to get the supremes tenders if that's what you feel like — we don't think you're going to be disappointed by them at all.

These tenders are made from whole breasts, which are then breaded and fried to perfection for that crispy texture you're going to love. While chicken breast is often kind of dry, that's not what you're going to find with these tenders. They've got a lovely juiciness for them that will keep you coming back for more. Of course, you should get them with a biscuit on the side if you want a true Bojangles' experience.

5. Cajun chicken sandwich

If you're at Bojangles' for lunch or dinner and you're looking for something other than a biscuit, we've got just the suggestion for you: the Cajun chicken sandwich. While the grilled chicken left a lot to be desired, that's certainly not the case with the fried version of this entrée. The chicken patty is nice and crisp, which pairs well with the freshness of the lettuce and tomato. There's also some mayonnaise added into the mix for a bit of creaminess.

But it's not just the breading that makes the chicken in this sandwich special. Rather, it's the spices. Cajun seasonings really bring out all the flavor in the meat. Don't worry — while it has a hint of spice, it's really not that spicy (unless you add your own hot sauce, which we certainly encourage). Get it with a side of fries and a drink, and you have the perfect chicken sandwich meal.

4. Cajun pintos

Who knew that a side dish would make their way this high on our ranking? But we truly believe that the Cajun pintos from Bojangles' have won this spot fair and square. Beans seem like the simplest side dish ever, but when they're mixed with flavorful Cajun spices, they become something that you won't be able to get enough of. These beans are slow cooked, so they hang on to a lot of their flavor. They're soft, but they're not mushy. And they just so happen to make the perfect addition to a meal.

We suggest pairing these beans with a bone-in chicken meal, especially if you're ordering lots of food for the family and want to have enough to share. They're a healthy side that can offer a lot of flavor in a little package. Don't write these beans off just because they're not the most interesting item on the menu — just give them a taste, and then you'll see why they're such a hit.

3. Bone-in chicken meal

When it comes to the bone-in chicken meals at Bojangles', you have many options at your disposal — you can really customize what you want to accommodate your specific tastes. Want a bit of variety in your meal? We suggest the two-piece leg and thigh or the two-piece breast and wing. If you prefer the juiciest chicken available and you're really hungry, you can always go for the three-piece leg and two thighs. Or if you know what you like and you want to stick with it, opt for the three wings.

No matter which combination of bone-in chicken pieces you choose, though, you're going to be happy with your selection. That's because this chicken tastes incredible. It's way better than the tenders, because the bones help keep those juices locked in. Plus, the breading is nice and crispy with the ideal amount of seasoning.

Just keep in mind that you get to choose a few sides when you choose one of these meals. There are a lot of options, but you can't go wrong with a biscuit and some Cajun pinto beans. Feel free to thank us later.

2. Pimento cheese biscuit

We bet you're not going to be able to find a pimento cheese biscuit anywhere other than Bojangles'. It's just not something you see on menus everyday. So when you get the chance to try it at this fast food restaurant, you should take advantage of the opportunity. Bojangles' pimento cheese biscuit is out of this world, and you have to try it for yourself.

Pimento cheese is a spread made with cheese, mayo, seasonings, and peppers — it's super flavorful and just a bit spicy. If you really love cheese, you're almost guaranteed to fall in love with this biscuit. A generous dose of Bojangles' signature pimento cheese spread is slapped onto a buttery biscuit, and you've got breakfast (or lunch... or dinner). It sounds really simple, but the flavor is anything but.

And the best part? If you fall head over heels in love with the pimento cheese spread, you can even take some home with you: The restaurant also sells it's pimento cheese spread by the tub.

1. Cajun chicken filet biscuit

Wondering what the best dish on the entire menu is? You've found it in the Cajun chicken filet biscuit. This is unlike any other breakfast sandwich you've had from a fast food restaurant, and after you try it once, you're going to want to go back to Bojangles' again and again just to get your hands on it. First, it starts out with one of Bojangles' favorite biscuits. Chicken is then placed inside, making the perfect little sandwich. But what really makes this sandwich special is the seasoning on the chicken.

Instead of just getting your average fried chicken breast, this fried chicken is spiced with Cajun seasoning. You really get to lean into the New Orleans taste that way. It is on the slightly spicy side, but it's not too intense — most people should be able to handle it. And while it seems like a breakfast item because it comes on a biscuit, you can conceivably eat this sandwich at any time of the day.

Now, go get one for yourself. You may just have a new favorite fast food meal.
