Kit Kat's New Cookie-Inspired Flavor Is Perfect For The Holidays

The Christmas season comes early to some parts of the world (we're looking at you, Philippines), and when the "-ber" months — SeptemBER, OctoBER... — come, it's time for malls to dust off the Christmas decorations that went into storage just a few months prior (via LinkedIn). Candymaker Hershey's appears to have taken a page out of this book by pushing past Halloween and Thanksgiving to announce the roll-out of a new, limited-edition Kit Kat for 2021 — the Gingerbread Cookie.

The gingerbread-inspired candy bar wanders away from Kit Kat's more traditional, chocolate roots to offer up a decidedly 21st century take on the classic gingerbread cookie. The flavor offers up Kit Kat's signature wafer, coated with a cream flavored with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves. We imagine Hershey's wants you to think about this Kit Kat bar as being as close to having a gingerbread cookie taste experience as possible, without having to fire up the oven and making them fresh. "We wanted to make sure your season is sweet in a big way with your favorite flavors, fun holiday shapes, and new ways to enjoy the treats and tastes you love," explained Melissa Biette, the candymaker's senior associate brand manager (via Best Products).

Kit Kats don't always come in milk chocolate

If you're a bit weirded out by the fact that Kit Kat is rolling out a decidedly unchocolate flavor for 2021's Christmas season, know that the iconic break and share, milk chocolate and wafer bar has been dressed to impress in other parts of the world for some time now. Kit Kats come in a variety of flavor outfits that range from "wow" to wacky, particularly in Japan, where Kit Kats are seen as a good luck charm thanks to its name "kitto katsu," which translates into "surely win" (via Japan Candy Store).

All told, the brand has more than 300 distinctive flavors available globally, which include rum raisin, fruit parfait, and maple on one end, and soy sauce, wasabi, hot Japanese chili powder, and wasabi on the other end. If none of those flavors rock your world, you can even personalize your bars at the Kit Kat Chocolatory (via GaijinPotBlog), making Kit Kat's U.S. Christmas offer decidedly not exotic by comparison.

The Kit Kat Gingerbread Cookie comes in miniatures and can be purchased in bags weighing 6.9 ounces and 8.4 ounces.
