Duff Goldman Has A Serious Infatuation With Reese's Cups
Confectioners deserve a lot of praise, especially when they create a treat so good, it becomes an icon of the culinary world. Take Reese's for example. Back in the 1920s, a man by the name of H. B. Reese was an employee of the Hershey Company. When he spent his free time concocting new candies in his basement, he stumbled upon one recipe that would eventually change the industry and remain an all-time favorite for generations. His most famous invention, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, are a truly legendary product.
Perhaps it's no wonder why Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are consistently ranked among the top preferred candies in the world, according to Candy Club, USA Today, and other resources. The unicorn ratio of perfectly textured peanut butter and creamy milk chocolate has wowed consumers for a century. Many professional cooks are also mesmerized by the Peanut Butter Cups' beauty, including the master of sweets himself, Duff Goldman.
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are perfect, according to Duff Goldman
Pastry chef Duff Goldman, who is perhaps best known for building extravagant cakes in his Baltimore bakery Charm City Cakes, knows a thing or two about indulgences. He recently confessed his love for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups in a relatable way.
Dan Pashman, the host of "The Sporkful" podcast, interviewed Goldman in April 2022. When Pashman asked Goldman about why he spends so much time "dissecting the practice of taking a single bite out of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup," the celebrity chef's answer certainly did not disappoint.
"When you take a bite of the Reese's, first, there's two sort of tactile things that happen. One, those little ridges kind of poke up into your lip. And then underneath, the chocolate's super thin, and your tongue can actually press up into the peanut butter. You get chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, and then you get salty peanut butter," Goldman explains. "And just that salty mixed with that sweet — it's such a perfect bite. The ratio is perfect. Reese's, I think, are one of the most well-designed candies in the world." It would seem that plenty of people agree with him — a Mashed candy bar ranking from earlier this year found the cups taking top honors.
